    3. Grahame and fellow listers, In view of the current discussion over FTM I am putting this to the list for information. Do not regard this as an advertisement! ******************************************************************* Hi there, Yes indeed the 8.0 version is out. The Australian distributors are the GUM Group (Genealogists Using Microcomputers) here in Melbourne. I suggest that you checkout the homepage on: http://www.vicgum.asn.au/ OR E-mail: info@vicgum.asn.au. Victorian GUM (Genealogists Using Microcomputers) Inc. is an association of family history researchers using computers to help them in their research. VicGUM is based in Melbourne, and has over 700 members around Australia. Part of its objectives are to assist members with information about hardware and software packages that can aid family history research. Click on "Software Sales" to find out price and availability details of the packages that they handle plus a description of what they contain. I must disclose that I am a fairly new member of this group (2 years) as I purchased version 7.0 of FTM in June and am slowly learning how to use it. > Would any one please be able to inform me if Familytree Maker 8 is out > yet and if so how much is it to buy? I live in Rydalmere Sydney NSW > and was thinking of purchasing. Cheers, Dawn, Watsonia, Vic.

    3. sometime over the Christmas holidays I shall be changing my e-mail address from wiseowl@mlink.com.au to wiseowl@australia.aunz.com because I have been connected with Australis for over a year and they have allowed me to keep my old E-mail address. They have now sent me a disc with instructions on how to set my POP and other Email things to Australis, which I shall do shortly. In the meantime I can be contacted at either address. 3. Hi Grahame The latest word on the availability of FTM ver 8.0 is that the national importer is hopeful of releasing its landed stock of the program, to companies who have back ordered it, some time later this week or early next. It would be then most likely to actually hit the shop shelves across the major chain stores in the week before Christmas. The "Deluxe Edition" retail format will come in two versions - 24 CD-ROMs and 35 CD-ROMs. It is still possible to purchase FTM ver. 7.0 in the 12 CD-ROM format, if you're interested. Cheers. From the quantity of BRUHNs I'd guess it could be about a three to four hour job. It would probably be a bit inconclusive, but would narrow down the search to a few that hopefully will cross reference with property records. As he sold and purchased land, legally he should have been naturalized, but sometimes these things slipped through. Get someone to search for property transactions in the NSW & Vic Land Titles Offices - the two earlier gold mining states. Maybe WA & Qld, where gold discoveries were later in the 1800s. Old System titles are indexed by seller, Torrens Title by purchaser. Try wills and probates - NSW & Vic have good indexes. There are a few BRUHNs on AGCI. It will probably need somone local to do the research. The above records are not online and the relevent archives do not do research themselves. 3. Grahame I bought V8 some months ago. The upgrade did not have a manual, it appears that with the upgrade you have to buy the manual separately which makes it rather expensive. My credit card was debited with about AUS$100.00 The internet site for the supplier of this upgrade is www.genealogy.com you could have a look there.
