It came to my notice a few weeks ago that during the 1830s approx 3,000 Irish females emigrated here. There is little info in the way of any indexing been done . And if anything appeared to be hidden away The lady I tripped over came on a ship called James Pattison in 1836 . I found this ships name in the convict marriage banns so lucky for me she married a convict and not a free settler ! Have gathered some other info but have been busy with other things due to the time of the year and havent had chance to follow this up The Parramatta FHG has recently published a Pionners register. Perhaps some ref to this family in that ? I went to Parrmatta Library a few months ago looking for ' putting flesh on the bones' type info for early Parramatta settlers . Little to be found there. One twig in one of my husbands families lived in Sorrel Street North Parramatta in the 1830's . Wasnt able to find out any more. This fellow was a stone mason , but no idea what stone he masoned ! ) Bye Marg Morters Central Coast Family History Society GOSFORD NSW Australia ______________________________
Hi all.. What do we all want for christmas?.. To be able to knock down those brick walls, well I do. The letter below was sent to me, so thought I would check it out and let me tell you it looks great. I registered (it's free) 3 days ago, uploaded my gedcom and today I have found new information (how good is that) not only have I found new information I didn't have to look for it, it was there on my page for me to see, the program matches my information with other sumbitted gedcoms.. This could be the christmas present we have all been looking for. Marry Christmas and a great New Year to all Jenny Perth Western australia Jenny, Hi! I noticed that you have a great deal of genealogical information online. I was curious whether you'd be interested in helping me with a project. I have launched a new web site called GenCircles. GenCircles is a free, community-based genealogy site that molds around people's uploaded GEDCOM files and will be an excellent new tool for genealogists. There are some features that set us apart from other web sites. First, we have a new technology called SmartMatching. SmartMatching compares the individuals in your file against all of the individuals in our Global Tree. We run a detailed search on every individual in your file, and see where your individuals match up with other individuals in other people's files. SmartMatching enables you to immediately see where other users have information that you are missing, and vice versa. Second, your GEDCOM file becomes a mini-community based on your genealogical data. Other users can post messages on the individuals in your file, sharing data in their research and helping to bridge the lines of communication between you and those that seek your ancestors. When a message is posted on an individual, it is also cross-posted to the appropriate surname in our Clubs section. For example, when you post a message on John Smith, it is also listed in the Smith Club. This is a great way for other researchers to keep up with all "Smith" activity across all submitted files. You can delete these messages at any time. What I am looking for is a few more people to contribute their data to get the web site off to a good start. Obviously, you will have full control over any data that you contribute, and you can delete it at any time (either directly through the web site or an email to me). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. If you are interested, visit this link: http://www.gencircles.com/ Thanks, Kevin

Hi Ian None are on line at all and as far as I know you cant even order a will from any State via any on line order facility. The NSW Attorneys Gens Dept increased the cost of a copy of a will from $10 to $36 last July. Would imagine the army of clerks previously employed photocopying wills found themselves out of work. I havent even checked the NSW Probate index since then in any look up I've done . Had they increased the price say to $15 that would have been reasonable but such a huge increase is just a money grab which I hope back fired . Fay Guthrie has alot of very useful info on her site including alot about wills for all States http://web.solutions.net.au/~guthrigg/index.htm bye Marg Morters Central Coast Family History Society GOSFORD NSW Australia

Was hoping someone could offer suggestions on the following: I looked this birth up at the local library on both the NSW microfisch & the NSW cd rom, but I'm still not sure if it's the right one. The place of registration on the microfisch says: VK The place of registration on the NSW Cd Rom says: FAR SOUTH COAST;CO. DAMPIER I do not know of any Dampier in NSW and was hoping someone could offer a suggestion as to where it might be? I thought it might be a diocese or something along those lines, but I'm just not sure. The full entry for the person involved is: TULLY James 1852 father: Patrick mother: Mary Roman Catholic Far South Coast; Co. Dampier V18521170 62 (or V18521170 69) .... I think I have may have taken one of them down incorrectly, so not sure if it's 62 or 69. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards and all the best for a wonderful festive season, Gina http://hometown.aol.com/ginahammond/myhomepage/heritage.html

Can anyone tell me who might have a death notice index for Brisbane/Queensland for 1950? I am trying to trace the death of my mother's cousin, Mary EATON and all I know is that she died in Brisbane in 1950. If there is no index of death notices in the newspaper can anyone tell me if I can get a copy of her will?? I do not know the exact date of birth, only the year. All help gratefully received Sue Thomas New Zealand

Another question. Can someone tell me what year the most recent year that it is possible to access Victorian Electoral Roll. Am I wishful thinking in hoping to access them from 1963-1967? Maybe someone can make a suggestion as to what else we may be able to try. My husband and I are trying to track down both his and his sisters fathers (probably two different people) We have one name and an area that they would both be from. We also have a possible nationality of the other. This is absolutely all we know. Any suggestions would be welcomed. The Victorian PRO advises that they can not supply copies to remote researchers. Would anyone who will be visiting the Vic PRO be able to help me get a probate file. Could SKS do a look up in the probate records in Vic. I am stuck and unable to find gg g grandfather death, and hope the probate records may help. With a name like Cole, I'm having trouble work out which one could be him on the BDM microfiche. His name is Charles COLE, around the Maldon area, I know he was alive in 1870, he was in hospital and aged 63yrs, so it would be after that. I need his death or marrige to be able to go back another generation. His wife death certificate states they were married in Tasmania in about 1844, but they are not listed on the Tasmanian CD for BDM, so his death I hope will help. Thanking you Gail
