    3. Hello all Would SKS be able to tell me if the two homes MARSTON & LANDSDOWN situated I believe at Gouldburn are still in existance. I am interested in the period the houses were owned by the Morriset family. If they have been demolished any advice as to where I may obtain information on them would be greatly appreciated. Warm Regards Hazel at Lethbridge Park [ magann@one.net.au ]

    3. Further to my first post (sorry for the mistypes) - Gobur is in the Mountain resorts eat of Lake Eildon - one would say Lake EIldon environs - it appears in the Atlas as north of the junction of Maroondah Hwy and Goulburn Valley Hwy. Unable to help with PLEA - sound like Pleasant Hills or some such - may have been a localitly name that could be found on the Gazetteer - I cannot find the URL at the moment. If Di is still online she may know. cheers, Nandina ----- Original Message ----- From: <soconnor@impulse.net.au> To: <AUSTRALIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 08, 2001 11:21 PM Subject: couple of locations. > Hi all > > Does anyone know where the location CHEPSTOWE is? Well, don't forget that an awful lot of name-changing and hospital closing and amalgamating has gone on in recent years. In fact, an earlier Melway (1984) has the Medical Centre still called simply the 'Caulfield Hospital'. The hospital is near the corner of Kooyong and Glen Eira roads, and grew out of the WWI military hospital which was in the 'Glen Eira' mansion. The mansion itself was the townhouse of Henry Ricketson, a Quaker pioneer pastoralist who migrated from Nova Scotia in 1852, and stood on 25 acres on Kooyong Road. It was purchased in 1915 by the Federal Government for use as a military hospital. Between World War I and 1964, it was used as living quarters for nurses completing geriatric training at the Alfred Hospital. The house was condemned and demolished in 1964. The site was purchased by the Victorian Government and is now the Caulfield General Medical Centre. Best! Lloyd

The only Cumberland I can find in Victoria other than natural features (which are in the same area anyway) is a Cumberland Station (forestry perhaps?) in the Otway Ranges somewhere between Lorne and Colac (though close to the coast). 2. Juliette Hendry
    3. Dear Patrick and list-ers, Patrick, you were asking about the records available from Kenmore Mental Hospital: Col and I got an enormous amount of information from Kenmore Mental Hospital, concerning a relative who died there in 1932. Information is certainly available. They have a policy of not releasing info within a certain time frame...not sure now if it was 30 years back or 50.... However, we paid $30 for all of the medical records of our Elizabeth Cummins who died in 1932 and got a STACK of papers, including photocopies of letters sent to her from her daughter [priceless!] and so many snippets like her weight, height, hair colouring, the list of clothes she took with her. Letters from other institutions, which gave a good background of her last ten or so years....family names.....who owned the house, etc... a wealth of information. Kenmore staff were so helpful and the info was sent promptly. Here's their website: http://www.asap.unimelb.edu.au/asa/directory/data/89.htm best wishes, Juliette Hendry Forbes NSW

    3. Hi All, Does anyone know of a group / person who would be compiling a listing of the obituary articles in the Sydney Newspapers for the year 2000. The articles are written as a form of biography, usually accompanied by a photograph and can appear any time after the person's death notice, sometimes several months hence. I note that the AUS-SAGEN-L mailing list has a subscriber who creates such a valuable list for South Australian newspaers. 2. Hi List I noticed on the online NSW BDM quite a few persons in whom I am interested, who had died while in Kenmore Mental Hospital at Goulburn. Does any kind soul happen to know the availability of patient records for this (and other mental institutions) during the early part of the 20th century? I find it very sad that many old folks seemed to have died in institutions - apparently without any family to care about them.
