    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jan Stapleton To: AUSTRALIA-L-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, January 14, 2001 8:27 PM Subject: Forrester Henry MUIR I am seeking help in locating the date and place of death of Forrester Henry MUIR. Forrester is the Son of William MUIR and Lydia BROWN.( William died in Gordonvale in Qld) He lived in Townsville before the 1st World War, He served in Africa and joined the Australian Army in Townsville to fight in WW2. He was discharged in 1918 and was diagnosed with premature senility. His Vets Affairs records show he was given a pension.. which was cancelled 12 months later because a continuance form was not returned. Forrester was discharged in Brisbane but never returned to his Family in Townsville. Letters from his wife to the Vets Affairs dept at the time prompted a search for him but nothing was found. There is also a letter from a cousin Margaret SMITH who was living in Surry in Sydney in 1919 ( This lady I have not been able to connect with the family yet) asking for help to find her cousin. Forrester's Family always believed he deserted them intentionally. But after receiving his Army records I believe he just did not know how to get home. Hopefully someone is researching this family and can shed some light on Forrester's date and place of death.. Or can point me in the right direction to find him. I have checked the Qld BDM's up to 1945 and The N.S.W. BDM's as far as I can. also the Victorian BDM's up to as far as we can. Nothing shows for Forrester. Is there any other place I can search. Hoping for some direction Jan.

    1. James Bully Forbes
    2. Norma M. Whitecar
    3. Hi, Can anyone tell me anything about Captain James "Bully" Forbes, who had made the fastest Atlantic Crossing on record in his time on the ship Lightning and was also captain of Marco Polo in the 1800's. I heard that he was captain of another ship which wrecked. I thought it was the Schomberg, but could find no record of it; however there was a ship named Stormbird which was wrecked in the 1800's. Would like more details on Captain Forbes and his career. I have some Forbes relatives, but there seems to be some confusion whether or not Captain Forbes was one of them. Norma in Utah

    3. Hi Denise There is quite a lot about German emigration in the book :- Valley of the Crooked River - European Settlement on the Nambucca" ISBN 0 86840 205 2 by Norma Townsend. An interesting read even if not specifically about your Germans. I learnt about this book on the Bellingen site www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/ Mine was Franz KOCH who changed his name to Francis COOK born Baden and came to Australia with his parents on the ship Triton in 1853.
