Anyone have the address of the "Friends of Rookwood Cemetery" ? Thanks, Leanne.
I have been unable to find the arrival of Josiah BRANCHFLOWER, his wife Mary Susannah (nee Armstrong) and infant son Josiah from London. Young Josiah was born in London in March, 1855 and their second son James was born in Melbourne in March, 1857. They could have landed first in South Australia or Tasmania, but ended up in Victoria. The younger brother of Josiah Snr. (Henry Benjamin BRANCHFLOWER) arrived in Melbourne in 1869 on the 'Gresham'. If anyone can find the arrival of the BRANCHFLOWER family in Australia, it would be greatly appreciated. Hello - can anyone help me? I am trying to find records of my ancestor Edward ROGERS. By all accounts he left Cornwall with his family on the ship "Blenheim" bound for New Plymouth, NZ, arriving in 1842 aged 8 or so. Around 1849 to 1851 he travelled to Australia with his elder brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Janet ROGERS, to work presumably on the gold fields [ they were Cornish miners by trade ]. While in Aussi Edward married......and I am trying to find out who he married, when and where. He was back in NZ in 1864, claiming to be a widow. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Thanks, Beth Auckland, NZ

Jan, I live 'next door' to Peckham - I don't have loads of time but may be able to help with a query. Karen, in East Dulwich, London
I have the Death Certificate for my Great Aunt Margaret Lees MUIR and there are a few questions I am hoping that SKS would be able to clear up for me. 1. Where it says "duration of last illness" the Following is written. "The Coroner Mr C. Mclean PM ordered the burial of the body without postmortem examination or inquest" Why would the Coronor be involved. cause of death was Cronic Nephritis. Uraemia. She died in 1934. 2. Informant.... is a Police Constable. Would this indicate they had to break in to find her. ?? Place of Death is her residence. In Fitzroy Victoria. If so would there be any records to show this. 3. She lived in Fitzroy but was buried in Springvale Victoria. This seems an awful long way to go .... Would there not be a closer cemetery to Fitzroy. 4. Is it possible to find a Will and how would I go about it. 5. Margaret dropped off the electrol rolls here in Brisbane in 1915 we presume to have moved to Victoria... On the Death Certificate it says "Unknown period in Victroia." Are the Electoral Rolls of Melbourne accessable on the net. ? Hoping someone can help Jan Brisbane
Hello everyone, I have received requests for the List of German Settlers in Hahndorf and have sent them by private email. If anyone else would like me to send it to them I am happy to do so by private email. I don't want to clog up the list. Happy Searching, Leonie.
Hello, Upon checking the details of my ggrandmother's death certificate who died of pneumonia and Pleurisy in St Edments Hospital Melbourne. The authorised agent on the certificate was from the Police Station Fitzroy. Could anyone tell me why the agent would be from the Police as the certificate does not mention any suspicious illness? Thank you for your help at all times. Patricia
Hi To ALL, Thanks for answering my query on Deaths and Obituaries in the Sydney newspapers. I had several kind people reply giving me advice to use the URL http://www.southernx.com.au/sxgindex.html This led me to indexes for the Sydney Daily Telegraph (SDT) and the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) on the Southern Cross Web Site. I found a death index entry but unfortunately not an obituary. The SLV (State Library of Victoria) hold Microfilms of both newspapers so this saved me a lengthy search to find the death of my first cousin once removed Grandison Charles CULLIS-HILL d. 22 March 2000. I was able to go straight to the entry on 25 Mar 2000. The index project is co-ordinated by John Graham and published on the net by John Snelson. It is a very valuable genealogical resource, entirely created by volunteers of the Sydney Dead Persons Society (DPS) to whom I and all others owe a great debt of gratitude. Thank you all for helping me. Kindest Regards ................ Les Leslie Hill (Mr), Albert Park, Victoria, Australia leshill@optushome.com.au
