    1. [AUST] Aust.Biographical Dictionary look up
    2. Joan Fawcett
    3. A gentleman in America (Jason Roberts) is hoping that someone will have access to the Australian Biographical Dictionary as he is seeking information on : .."Laurence Hynes Halloran (1765-1831), who ran a private school and was also a poet of some acclaim. However, both those careers were interrupted when he was convicting of forging postage and transported. In the best Australian tradition he promptly became a beacon of respectable achievement, apparently founding the first grammar school in Sydney, if not the entire country...." Jason is writing a history of Lt Holman, the blind traveller who journeyed throughout Australia in the 1830's, and Halloran was a friend of Holman's. So if anyone has a copy of the Aust.Biographical Dictionary would they be kind enough to look up Halloran and send a copy onto [email protected] with thanks Jenny Fawcett

    2. Joan
    3. Hello Listers I am searching for any descendants or information on Mary STOCKTON as follows: Mary Stockton born about 1846 in England, [have not been able to find where in UK] Married Jesse ELSTON in Mudgee in 1864; he was born Stepney, St. Marys, Whitechapel in 1826 and arrived in NSW Australia 1860. He was a butcher. Mary was about 18 when she married Jesse and her guardians were James Farrant and Sarah Farrant Neate. Mary had previously had a son William James in 1863, father unknown and William died in 1864 whether he was the child of Jesse is not known. Mrs. Neate was a witness at the birth of William together with an Elizabeth Ann Jane who was a close friend. Mary & Jesse ELSTON had 4 children - Samuel Joseph, Elizabeth Jessie, Emily Rosetta and William. Jesse died in 1873 and Mary remarried to John Frederick SMITH in Mudgee 1874 and had 6 more children - Clara, Percival Sydney, Thomas Walter, Albert George, Jack A and Ernest Reuben. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may have any knowledge or connections with these families. Many thanks....Joan in Parramatta
