Searching for information on Mary HEALY, born in County Kerry (Tralee???) abt 1870's. Gave birth to daughter Mary HEALY in 1892 and thereafter went to Australia, leaving daughter to be raised by grandparents. May have married a man named Hanson in Brisbane? Thought to have died in Australia during WWII. I know it's not much to go on, but would appreciate any help. Ellen

Hello, everyone. With the issues recently raised on the Genealogy-DNA mailing list, about sending the DNA samples to the USA for testing, and the possible effects of the mentioned irradiation of such samples, the following message was sent to me, and, after having obtained permission from Bennett Greenspan, I am posting the message to the list, as the response to the issue, from FamilyTreeDNA. The response below, indicates that no problems appear to have occured with DNA samples sent to FamilyTreeDNA in the USA, for testing. Thus I have sent DNA samples for testing, on that basis. I sent the samples, with the statement on the Detailed Declaration that I was required to complete: "Human DNA samples from mouth swabs - in sealed plastic containers - same as licking envelopes" so it is now a matter of waiting and finding what happens to the samples, and the results. I did what I did, to ensure that I did this correctly, and to have confidence that it was not a waste of time sending the samples, as in these times, to not do it properly, can be quite precarious, from my understanding, and it is difficult for lay people, to understand the extent of the effects of actions such as the irradiation of the samples, without qualified advice. So, anyone else who has similar concerns to what I had, about the possibility of the irradiation as used by the USA Postal Service, ruining DNA samples for genealogical anaylsis, can be assured that, so far, no adverses affects are indicated. And, I hope that any other male Busby's will be encouraged to take the tests, to find whether any relationships are likely to exist, between the different known Busby lines (eg, the descendants of Michael Horton Busby (my line), the descendants of John Scurr Busby, the descendants of John Busby of the Busby Bore in Sydney (who is father of James Busby of the New Zealand Treaty of Waitangi), the Oxford Busby's, the Yoprkshire Busby's, and the various USA Busby lines, including descendants of William Reece Busby). So, if anyone is inclined to take the DNA tests, but has been doubtful, due to concerns about sending the samples to the USA, sending the samples to the USA for testing, appears to be okay, as long as it is done properly. -- Bret Busby Armadale West Australia .............. Grahame According to the NSW BMDs George Jaffray (Father George - Mother Christina) married Henrietta Barwick (Father William - Mother Charlotte) at Richmond in 1868. There are six children registered to the marriage: William born 1870, Amelia born 1872, Henrietta born 1873, Georgina born 1875, Emily born 1879 and Liddy born 1881. William, Henrietta, Georgina and Emily all died in 1880. If I were you I would check to see if the Hawkesbury River was in flood at that time and they may have drowned or if there was an epidemic of some kind raging, there death certificates would tell you the cause of their deaths. Amelia married Frederick R. Cutler in Sydney in 1874, there are no children registered to this couple. Liddy married Ernest E, Taylor at Richmond in 1902 and, like Amelia, there are no births registered to the couple. There is also a marriage registered for a Victoria H. Jaffray to Henry N. Garland at Richmond in 1907. Victoria does not show up in the birth register, could she have been a sister to George? George died in 1921 and Henrietta in 1928 both deaths occured at Richmond. Hope this is of some help. Neville Bellambi NSW Grahame James wrote: > > Hello Everyone > > I hope you all had a good Christmas. Hello Everyone I hope you all had a good Christmas. A lot of you have been helping me with this querie and given me sites to go to which I have been doing. However a search on these sites have turned up nothing. I have replied to a couple of the Libraries in question but they could not assist. I have tried for years to get info and I hit brick walls on each turn so I will post this again in the hope that some one may think of something. Our Ancestor George Jaffray was born in Aberdeen Scotland in 1837 from the age of 8yrs to 15yrs he was engaged on a farm. He served in the Ranks of the Imperial Army(I do not know what rank). He spent nine months in the Crimean war (I cannot locate is enlistment anywhere I have tried.) After he spent ten months East Indies Police Brigade(again I do not know his rank here.) He followed a seafaring life for 12yrs before landing in Sydney in 1864. Then went to South Kurrajong NSW and worked as a contractor for 3yrs (I tried to look to see who he was contracted to but no show). If any one has any Ideas on where to go from here I would be most grateful to you all. In our possession is his old wooden water bottle with a picture showing 6 rifles in a pyramid position with union Jack behind and the year 1862 it has snow scene. Regards Grahame James

Dear list members. Could I have some help please. Does anyone know of a Bartholomew Rush who arrived in Australia probably some time before 1845. He may have been married 3 times: Ann Bennett; Sarah Riley and Harriett Wastell. Also, he probably built the Prince Albert Hotel which is now the Poplars Motel north of Mittagong and may have also at one time owned Braemar Lodge. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas to you all Murray Hawkins Canberra
