    2. GLEN HALL
    3. Dear Friends and listers I have included another 22 webpages and updated the existing 6 webpages on the 52 War memorials, honour boards I have identified from from the Mackay District for Anzac Day. goto http://www.geocities.com/ghh_mackay/war_memorials/war_memorials.html This has been ongoing research on and off for the last ten years and results of collecting over 4000 pieces of documentation hundreds of hours research and trips to the War Memorial in Canberra as well as local research, so sorry for the delay in getting the information online :-). I would like to publish in book form one day when time and money allow. This is stage 1 of the project. Stage 2 is a biographical database on all those killed or died in all wars from the Mackay region which was started at the same time but yet to be published online but will be one day hopefully in the near future. I will update in the near future but if anyone can add to the list or provide any further information on the history of the memorials or those men not yet identified please email me. Cheers from Glen Hall Research Officer Mackay Historical Society and Museum Inc. Po Box 1349, MACKAY QLD 4740. email: [email protected] our website: http://www.geocities.com/mackaymuseum/index.html

    3. This was on the London list thought I would post for us to enjoy. Cheers Amanda Does 'your' wife spend her life in a library? is her nose always deep in a book? serving leftovers, late, for your luncheon, can she no longer be bothered to cook? Does she seek an affair with the postman? Do your overtures meet with risposte? Its not for his visits she's yearning But the letters of love in the post. Can you no longer enter your study? Does the desk overflow to the floor? with details that beg comprehension of persons obscure and of yore. And does she incessantly babble about things you don't give a toss of a long dead illiterate Auntie who witessed a Will with a cross. Well! youve had it! I might as well tell you usurped and degraded like me A genealogical widower you take second place to a tree. No! I dont mean a gum or a wattle of chainsaws it taketh no heed Its a kind of ancestral pyramid extolling man's penchant to breed. I'm forming an organisation for dissidents folks such as I whose spouses have left them to follow the all-seeing God. IGI. Whats that dear? related to convicts? Gt grandad was on the first fleet? His son the first Mayor of Bunyip and one of the nation's Elite? His ancestors crossed with the Conquest I'm related to dukes by the score? Its amazing this family history Incredible! Do tell me more Daphne RI USA

    1. Back Again !
    2. Leah Armstrong
    3. Hi, It's been a while since I have subscribed to [email protected] , I have come a long way with my family research, since I went off line. I hope everyone is going as well as I have. Gee I think the last time I was on this channel, it was about 1999. Being a Pioneer Volunteer for the Olympic Games, from 1998 to 2000, took up a lot of time, and Hey! who goes off there computer once it's on? Ah! I made quite a few e-mail friends, along the line and had great help. Sometimes you get to a stage when you have tried all avenues, and you have to retrace your work. Well that's what I'm up to at the moment, I am still doing Williams, which hasn't gone off the back burner, since I really started family Research in 1994. And as you all know Williams is the most sort after name in History! Now I'm after Licences for Coxswains in NSW, that's what my Great Grandfather was, and of cause he came from Swansea in Wales? Do forgive me for leaving, but what goes around comes around as the old saying goes!! If anyone can aid me in my research, it would be most gratifying. Also have sent some info to the Mariner Museum & Library, but nothing as yet. Regards Princess Leah

    1. Thea ROWE (1907-1992)
    2. Phil Young
    3. I'm researching the life of my cousin Thea ROWE, her full name being Dorothy Leanora Rowe, 1907-1992, who devoted her life to the theatre. She was born in Balmain to Clement Richard ROWE and Ada Florence BATTY. Her great-uncle was Col. Thomas ROWE, architect of some major buildings in Sydney, and the 1st mayor of Manly. She is a decendant of Mary TURNER a 1st Fleeter, and David BATTY a 3rd Fleeter. She was awarded an MBE in 1976 for her services to the Arts. Thea was a highly talented actress, wrote several plays herself, opened a number of theatres in the 1930's, toured much of Australia presenting plays and recitals to large and small towns, and visited hundreds of schools in NSW in the 1950s and 60s to present her unique skills to thousands of schoolchildren. She was famous for the many characters that she played, and always travelled with an enormous wardrobe of costumes. She was frequently introduced with the line "There is only one Thea Rowe, but she is many people". I'm fortunate to have inherited many of her papers and photographs, and I'm now spending much of my spare time transcribing many of her notes, diary entries and memories, and scanning her photographs, as I write her life story. Contact me if you remember Thea Rowe, or can possibly add to my knowledge of her.
