    3. Thank you to Jenny, Neville and Marg for the following. Sophia arrived on the Princess Charlotte 1827. In the 1828 census of the Colony of NSW, a Sarah ZEALEY was a servant of a William COLLINS in George St Sydney along with her 3 yo dau Mary Ann and that this the only main surviving census. Also a Mary A. Zealy died V18281237 12 1828, INFANT SYDNEY, ST JAMES' CHURCH OF ENGLAND. Can anyone recommend where I could look to see if she left the country - this would be 1834 onwards. I have tried shipping lists, with no luck. Thanks, Helen South Australia

Dittmann married Gustav Adolf Knabe at Sydney, New South Wales, in 1921. Gustav, whose parents were Frederick Wilhelm and Auguste Loerse, died in 1950 at North Sydney. Emma died at Manly, a Sydney suburb, in 1963. Her parents were Wilhelm Gottlieb and Karoline Christine. Could not find any children to the marriage but there was a marriage registered to Max Albert Knabe to Myrtle Lillian Truscott at Broken Hill, New South Wales, in 1954. Pauline J. Dittmann married Frank H. Maynard at Sydney in 1922. The only other mention of the couple is that Frank was born at Parkes in 1898 to William A. and Mary Maynard and died at Dubbo, New South Wales, in 1927. As your English is much better than my German I hope you can make sense of this. Regards Neville Bellambi NSW Au

    3. In the United States is a whole industry establishing genealogical links specifically to the Plantagenet kings of England. As a result, quite a number of Americans can find their ancestry all the way to Charlemagne and so covering more than a 1000 years of ancestry. To me it is not important (but it is interesting) to be able to link with nobility or royalty, but in most cases this is the only way to be able to go back so far in time. Also when one such ancestor is found, this usually gives ancestors in many, if not all, European countries. I have a website http://www.genealogics.org which may provide some these links, even for a fair number of Australians. I would love to hear from anyone in Australia who thinks they can link to nobility or royalty. With best wishes Leo van de Pas Canberra, Australia

I think one of the major advices to attendees and organisers is NOT to put on display original photographs. Your mind would boggle at the number of descendants who "rescue" family photos from others for their own collections! Even complete albums! One of the features I used to offer was the use of a photocopier, both for those with original photos so that they could put a copy on display and keep their precious originals in their own hands, and secondly so that those who would like a copy could approach the owner, go together to the photocopier, and both come away satisfied. In the old days before scanners, I used to set up my photographic copying equipment, have identity forms on each photo filled out (owner, address, name of subject, year photo taken, occasion, and a name and address space below for multiple requests for copies, together in a pad, numbered for each negative. At the end of the day I developed the film, made a "contact sheet" of the 35 mm negs, posted the lot off to the organiser. Everyone knew the organiser, and they contacted her to organise prints of the photos and pay in advance. Because of this, I never heard from any organiser that photos were stolen. But, now all you need is a photocopier. You can go home then, and scan the copies into your computer. And the equipment is so cheap now, in comparison to when I offered that service back in the 1980/90s. 2. My experience is from before the ready access to computers and out tress were hand drawn but We allocated each branch of the family a separate colour. We handed out ribbons of the appropriate colour to everyone as they arrived. Each family branch had a separate section of the hall to pin up stuff. Lay photos on tables ect. Everyone brings photos each branch had a tree for that section. Original couple that arrived in Australia, their children then the descent of the appropriate child. I have been to another family reunion in a park where the organisers put together a family tree that was many meters long laminated attached to a rope and hung between the trees in the park the trees. I will have a computer there, and photos etc, but want to display the tree on the wall for people to look at. If it helps, the main couple had 5 surviving children. One had 1 child, another 2 children, another 3, but the other two had 6 and 7 children. There are 1533 people recorded in this family to date including spouses and up to 8 generations. Is it better to have the earliest generations say up to grandchildren, or even great grandchildren in one section with a reference then to a separate section for the next generation and their descendants elsewhere in the building? Do photos fit well in a display like this? I would love to know if a particular program helps with displays other than what the family tree program produces. Has anyone done this before and knows what works or what doesn't work please? Any other good suggestions as to what to display or have available would be good as well.
