Hi, all, Thought I'd share some information I ran across yesterday at the library. In December of 1778, both William and David AUSTIN obtained land in Wilkes Co., NC [part of which became Ashe Co. in 1799, which then split to form Alleghany in 1859.] William's land was on Christian's Creek of the Mitchell River, and David's was on Butler's Creek of the Mitchell River adjoining Benjamin MAY and Jonas WALING. In December of 1779, Steven AUSTIN made a land entry for 50 acres on Christian's Creek and the fork of the Mitchell River "at his other line he bought of ROBINSON"; however, Steven AUSTIN's name was marked out, and William AUSTIN's name was written in. [This circumstance occurred when there were two conflicting concurrent claims, and the claim filed first superceded the other, as far as I have been able to determine.] Pam [email protected]
