    3. I recently posted an article on the soc.genealogy.britain newsgroup and received a very helpful reply. However the gentleman who replied is unable to help me further. Perhaps someone here could. Here's the original letter and response. On Thu, 18 Jun 1998 18:17:39 GMT, in soc.genealogy.britain, "Andrew M. Can anyone help me find out the >regiment? This sounds rather like Tarleton's Dragoons who were initially raised in 1776 from loyalists in North America and called the British Legion. They were a mixed force of cavalry and infantry under Major Bannistre (or Banastre) Tarleton, and were placed onto the British establishment on 25 Dec 1782 under the name of Tarleton's Dragoons. They didn't last very long though - they were disbanded in 1783! I have an Army List which shows that Tarleton was promoted to Lt Col on 15 Jun 1781 Forrest Anderson [email protected] Does anyone know of a list of soldiers for Tarleton's Dragoons? Also, does anyone have anything on a James AUSTIN arriving in the US from Ireland some time prior to the outbreak of the Revolution? Thanks in advance. Andrew M. Austin
