Still looking for William Henry Harrison AUSTIN (b. June 6, 1840) as a 10 year old in 1850 census and an un-married 20 year old in 1860. Family lore has his parents name as Samuel and Mildred but can't confirm this....William married Christena Samantha Ella WOOD dau of David WOOD and Sarah America WEBB in Albemarle Co. in 1864. They began their family of 15 children soon after, but where are they in 1870? Only clue so far is one of William's daughters, Alwilda (Allie) m. Thomas Lemuel COONS in MO. in 1898 and died there and the funeral home has her birth place as Smithville, VA. in 1874. According to 1854 Atlas, this is 39 miles west of Richmond in Powhatan Co. There is a William D. AUSTIN with wife Mildred in Cumberland Co. (next door) with an 11 year old William C. in the 1860 census. In 1880, they all are in White Hall Township in Albemarle Co. William's son, Luther b. 1869 is my direct line...he married Martha Grace COONS in Warsaw MO in 1898. Other children in William's family: Willie Ann-b. 1874, Eugene b. 1867, Fannie-b.1869, Lucelia b. 1871, Sallie, b. 1873, Mary b. 1875, Janette b. 1876, Noble b. 1877, Nettie b. 1879, Gracie b. 1883, Broaddus b. 1886, and Ella b unknown. All were born in VA. I don't know the identity of child #15, whether it was older, younger, or in the middle somewhere. Christena's obit says she died April 13, 1907 near Warsaw MO. William died in January that year and they are buried in the same plot with Noble and his wife. It states that 14 of the 15 children were living. It also says she "made a profession of religion when she was 17 and joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in VA. It lists the survivors as Willie Ann BALLARD, Lucelia BALLARD, and Ella BALLARD all of Charlottesville, VA., Allie COONS of Clinton, MO, Mary CHIPLEY of St. Louis, Nettie GRANT of Montana, Jennie WHITFIELD of Warrensburg, MO., Grace BOTTS of Sedalia, Fannie WOOD of LaMonte, and Allie PEMBERTON of Midland, TX. This makes me think that the AUSTIN's did not leave Virginia until after the three oldest sisters were married to brothers? cousins? By 1898, they are in MO. Will someone please breakdown this brick wall for me? Or adopt us? Thanks!
