    2. To All descendants of John Calhoun AUSTIN (Grandpa Jack) >From Helen and Vernon Austin ([email protected]) of Decatur, AL 256-350-2787 We have decided to have another of our Biannual Hikes to the old cabin homesite of Grandpa Jack in the Bankhead Forest, South of Moulton, AL, Lawrence Co. On Next Sunday Afternoon. No dinner or picnic is planned. Bring your own water or snacks as you will. Meet at 1:30 to 1:00 PM at the McDougle Hunters Campground on Cheatham Road, Highway 33, South of Moulton, AL. This is in the Black Warrior Mountains. There are primitive camping conditions, no tables, but a toilet. Plenty of parking. Rough hiking. Not for the faint of heart, or babes. The forestry trail to the AUSTIN HOMEPLACE is just west of this site, across the road. We will lead a group of hikers about 3 to 5 miles back into the woods to the place where the fireplace and foundation stones remain to mark the cabin site. No, we have not done anything about getting a marker made for the homeplace or the footstone for the grave at Mountain Springs Church. If you can't make this, Willard Austin told us that some are planning an evening service for Decoration Day on the third Sunday of May 1999 at Mountain Springs Church. But, news is that we did get the bio sketch of John C. Austin 1831-1907 into the HERITAGE BOOK OF LAWRENCE CO., AL which was published by LCHS and Heritage books October 1998 with a picture and the bio sketches and pictures of three of his sons, Isaac Samuel, Luther, John Harvey are going into the COLBERT CO HERITAGE BOOK next year. All are welcome, next Sunday, Helen
