    2. Carolyn: >From what I have been able to find, Amelia County was formed in 1734 and was once part of Prince George and Brunswick Counties. Hanover County was formed in 1721 from New Kent. All three counties may have been part of an earlier county. maybe someone else is more familiar with all of that. I really need a good source for Virginia county information. I ran across some more information that I did not put on rootsweb yet (I guess I didn't want people to think I "talk" to much) about a John Austin from that same area. John may have been related to Barth. John was allowed in 1725 an allowance from of St. Peter's Parish of New Kent County for the upkeep of a Mary Amos, a widow. From the same Vestry Book of St. Peter's Parish, John had at least four children: Agathy Austin d/o/b March 3, 1719/20; Mary Austin d/o/b November 4, 1723; Jane Austin d/o/b April 12, 1726 and William Austin d/o/b July 7, 1728. I guess with Agathy's birth date John could have been born from 1690-1700? Could be a brother to Barth? Who knows. There is also a John Austin granted a land patent in Hanover County on March 15, 1734/35. There is also a John Austin married to a (yep, you guessed it) Elizabeth Austin who was the father of Fanny Austin born January 22, 1755. If you want sources on all the above let me know. I don't know if or how they fit together. I still feel if everyone will start looking and we can share information we might get the lesser known Austin's of Virginia straightened out. Bob Austin
