    3. Carl, To view The Austin DNA Project, go to http://www.austins.org/cgi-bin/DNAsummary20041108.pdf. or access it from "Projects" at the top of the AOAGS Website at www.austins.org The Edith Austin Moore related test is # 20710. Although it is not highlighted with the "Robert Austin of RI" group, it is only 2 markers off the normed markers. Markers 2 and 6. As near as I can tell from trying to understand what that means, from reading material both on this Website and others, it means that the DNA donor's family is related to, in this case, Robert Austin. But that the "Common Ancestor" is not a father or grandfather, but is much further back. Hopefully, someday further research back into the English origins of both lines will reveal the connection. Edith Austin Moore herself was never able to make the connection, and her Edward Austin ancestor's line was listed in the back of her original book, page 470 along with other possible, but unplaced lines. At the Austin Families Assn of America Website, www.afaoa.org/ , at the present time, Edward was attached as the son of an unknown son of Edward Austin and Isabel Hardy. This is noted as speculation. In a future update, that line will return to "Northern Unplaced Austins" Liz Austin Carlin Genealogist Austin Families Assn of America. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carl Hommel" <chommel6@comcast.net> To: <AUSTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2004 5:45 PM Subject: September 2004 Newsletter > The September 2004 issue of the Austins of America Genealogical Society > Newsletter, which I received today, says on the last page (!) that a DNA > test proved that a nephew of Edith Austin Moore was not descended from > Robert Austin of Kingston, RI. > > Since this is rather a startling bit of news, I hope that some follow-up > infomation could be provided to people, such as me, who based their > descent from Robert Austin on Mrs. Moore's book. > > Is it known when and where the disconnect ocurred? 3. The Edward Austin line (Edith Austin Moore's line) differs from the Robert Austin line in two markers, but one of those two markers is two mutations off, which apparently makes a difference. You should note that the DNA for the Robert Austin line and the Jonah Austin line match, making it just as likely that Edith Austin Moore was closely related to Jonah Austin of Tenterden, Kent, as to Robert. It seems likely that Robert Austin's ancestry might be found in Kent as well. Carol Austin
