    1. [AUSTIN] Augustus W J D Austin and William Austin b 1809 VA of Colorado Co, TX 1842
    2. Helen Austin
    3. This is about a search for the parents of some Austins who lived in early Texas. Colorado and Lavaca County, TX.   I found the William b 1809 VA who married Blanche Woolsey in Col. Co,TX. William and a relative? brother? Augustus W. J. D. Austin were together, living in 1842 in Colorado County. The records of the TSLA tell the story that when some volunteers were asked for, to go help fight the Mexican General Wol/Wall, in Fall of 1842, some men from Colorado County went to help the Texians.  By the time they got to Gonzales, the fighting was over and the Mexicans had retreated.  So, they went home. Among the fellows from Col. Co. were William Austin (probably the one I am researching) and his relative the Augustus W. J. D. Austin.  It seems Augustus died not long after they men returned to their homes in Colorado County, probably between 1842 and Dec 2, 1846, when Wm. was made adm of the estate of AWJD.     Claims were filed to the Treas of the Republic of TX for money for their service. Money was received for both men, by William, for $15.70 , paid in full Aug 10, 1854.  That was the year that William married the girl named Blanche Woolsey from  Monroe Co, GA.  Now how were these two fellows related?  Where did they live before 1840? Was Augustus also born in VA?  1840 Republic of TX census, has AWJD Austin paying taxes in Travis, Co, but William was paying taxes in Colorado Co.  Help me find a thread before 1840?  Parents that are proven? Some folks suggest that Wm. is a desc of John Sr. of Southside VA, but the AFAOA records do not support that. Someone must have some more info?  Please post or write to me directly... I am working on a story about some of their descendants.
