Re: The Austin Family of Gilder Plantation Book" by Aurelia Austin. I sent money to Aurelia to buy one ten years ago and she returned my check. I would also love to purchase one. I you find a source, let me know. Has anyone else done a book for AFAOA on this family ? I remember that Barbara Austin had this line and presented information at the Nashville Conference of AFAOA several years ago. Since this is a Greenville/Laurens Co SC family, I have always kept an eye on the family. I am still searching for a connection for my John C. Austin b 1831 with some SC family which resided in that state, upcountry before 1800. I would love to have Aurelias Book, also, Helen Austin [email protected]

The only info that I have on the other Austin's is that they were Loyalists. This info was obtained from the net by goning to the GenWeb sit for Digby, NS. and then the Loyalist lines. URL is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~canwgw/ns/digby/perm/town.htm As far a "DS", I don't know what it means. I am posting this to the Austin-L list in hopes that someone else may know the answers to this question. Jane, I have the John Austin and Hannah Love line, and am the one who has two lines from Stephen on down. We have different information on William, son of John Jr. I also have Isaiah Austin as a son of John Austin and Mary McBee, daughter of William McBee. Isaiahs' sheet is at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7563/fam02188.htm I do not have the below information on William and Milly, but the information I do have on William is different. I have his death listed as AFT Sep 1826 at Ashe Co., NC??? In the notes section for him I have; BIOGRAPHY--WILLIAM AUSTIN Quoted from "Southside Virginia Austins," by Janet Austin Curtis. "The Virginia Genealogist," October-December 1961, 147-54. William Austin. Little is known of him. He appears on the Montgomery Co., Va., tax lists 1782-87, and in 1793 paid for two tithables in Wythe County, indicating he had a son over 16 at that time. By a deed dated 25 July 17__ he bought from William Allison 250 acres on the New River in Ashe Co., N. C. This deed was witnessed by B. Austin, and when it was finally recorded in 1825 the witness was mentioned as Bat. Austin. On 2 Sept. 1826 William Austin deeded this land to Bartholomew Austin. He also purchased 300 acres on the New River, adjoining the lands of Willim Reeves and others, from Peter Whitaker on 2 May 1807. (19) ____________ 19. Ashe Co., N. C., Deed Book D, p. 41. So here is where our info differs. I don't see a Bartholomew listed as a child in your information. Maybe someone can help us get this straight on the AUSTIN list. I will send a copy to them. Jody, I have ten different websites, and OUR Austin line is a big part of it. I would love more information on your line. I didn't have Archibald listed as one of Josephs' children, and I had Williams' daughter Margaret married to an *Unk Starr. Please visit my website, and I would love to exchange information for and from my database. Below I have added in where the family files are at my websites. I recently posted an article on the soc.genealogy.britain newsgroup and received a very helpful reply. However the gentleman who replied is unable to help me further. Perhaps someone here could. Here's the original letter and response. On Thu, 18 Jun 1998 18:17:39 GMT, in soc.genealogy.britain, "Andrew M. Can anyone help me find out the >regiment? This sounds rather like Tarleton's Dragoons who were initially raised in 1776 from loyalists in North America and called the British Legion. They were a mixed force of cavalry and infantry under Major Bannistre (or Banastre) Tarleton, and were placed onto the British establishment on 25 Dec 1782 under the name of Tarleton's Dragoons. They didn't last very long though - they were disbanded in 1783! I have an Army List which shows that Tarleton was promoted to Lt Col on 15 Jun 1781 Forrest Anderson [email protected] Does anyone know of a list of soldiers for Tarleton's Dragoons? Also, does anyone have anything on a James AUSTIN arriving in the US from Ireland some time prior to the outbreak of the Revolution? Thanks in advance. Andrew M. Austin

Happy Days!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I have been looking for information on the Austins for years. You have confirmed alot of things that I suspected were true, but couldnt prove. Now if I can be as lucky finding info on the Stanzels, could you tell where you got your sources of info for that area of Michigan? I am trying hard to trace my husbands family the Stanzels, as well as the Austins. Thanks Again. Lori Stanzel
>From Helen Austin: I thought some of you who are desc. from Wealthy Preuitt and AUSTIN might want to know that some of Wealthy's siblings came to Tn and then to Lawrence Co, AL. Many Preuitt as well as Austin desc are in North AL counties of Lawrence, Morgan, Madison. I have their genealogy and descendancy from the father of Wealthy who served in the same war unit with AUSTIN. That is one reason I have been looking so closely at this John AUSTIN of Lunenberg, VA line. Wondering if it is a coincidence that some of this Preuitt family is buried next to John C. Austin 1831TN-1907AL in the Mountain Springs graveyard in the Banhead National Forest, Lawrence Co, AL !! Note to Debbie W. (don't remember your address) Did you know that Eddie Preuitt whose ads for his Ford Auto dealership show often on the TV in Huntsville, AL, is one of these descendants of the Preuitt family of Southside VA ?

Sorry fellow rooters...thought my answer to Ms. Russel's note went directly to her on her quest for Austins...if anyone does tie into to line do contact us [email protected], [email protected], TXJEAN, [email protected] TXJEAN for the lineage of John Austin, Sr. b. c. 1700...
Now you mention that Archibald Pruit Austin b. 1767, brother to my Stephen Austin b. 1769 married a Rebecca Thompson...marriage record in Pittsylvania Co., VA lists her name a Blankinship ...can you give documented proof to show this is her name of Thompson and not Blankinship? have been asking folks to show us proof on this for sometime...Wm. Thompson and Rachel Coleman did have a dau. Rebecca Thompson but I just found it recently in a compilation and when I looked at the dates it didn't seem to match up with Rebecca Blankinship's...so am in question here on this line?? Margaret in CA in 1990's stated she felt her name was Rebecca Thompson and sent me info on this line of Thompsons...I know a Blackman Coleman was later in Rutherford Co., TN and owned land there then to Bedford Co., TN...so wondering if we are on right track with the Thompson surname...been working n Austin clan since 1975!!! Help okay? TXJEAN
Hi, my line of descent is from son Stephen Austin b. 1769 VA who married Rebecca Hankins of Pittsylvania Co., VA in 1800..This Stephen is also Joseph's son by the way!! You didn't mention him in your note...did you have him listed on your lineage chart? TXJEAN...Stephen and Rebecca left VA for NC or at least wound up in Rutherford Co., TN by a later date then listed in this county in 1840 census then in Bedford Co., TN in 1850 census...Stephen's dau. Eliza Ann Austin married Wm. Wilson Dearing/Dering..(Lineage of Nicholas Dering to America)..Isle of Wight and Orange Co, VA Dearing/deering family lines...Smith, Dearing, Hankins, Covingtons, Austins are my connections...to TN and later in TX..TXJEAN
I've never put a query on here before. I have a William Austin living in Grant Township, City of Jeddo, St. Clair County, Michigan. He married a Lydia Chadwick, in 1843. William and Lydia were both born in Canada, around 1821. They had two children, Anna S. born in 1842 in Burchville, Michigan, and John W. Austin born in 1848, also in Burchville. William Austin's parents names were William and Hannah Austin, William from New York and Hannah from Conneticut. Anna S. Austin married March 22, 1861 to John W. Stanzel born in Michigan, but his parents came from Austria. If anyone knows anything about these people please contact me . Thanks, Lori Stanzel
Helen, I know we've corresponded before, but don't know if we've exchanged this info. I have a Joseph Austin, son of Bartholomew and Elizabeth Austin of Fairfield Co. SC. Joseph is mentioned in both of their wills - Bartholomew's was proved in 1771 and Elizabeth's in 1803. Their property was located between Little River and Broad River. As far as I've been able to determine, Bartholomew and his family were the only Austins in Fairfield Co. during this time period. Carolyn Cooper
Don, I haven't seen the 1850 Census for Burlington, NJ but there should be a Susanah Austin who removed to Burlington from Collins, Erie Co. NY in 1849 and stayed until 1851. She may be residing with Wilson's or Brown's. Is she in one of the families you are refering to? Bill [email protected] wrote: > The family in Burlington County would likely be descendants of the Austin > family that was there very early but I have none. Many of us have the John s/o John and Hannah connection. I am not an authority on William's line, but the Robert that you listed I have as son of Stephen and Dorcas Austin, except I have his place of death as Franklin County , AL instead of Fayette Co., AL. Sylvia Rhodes
