I sent for 2 birth certificates back in October. My checks came back as cashed on the 12th of November. I have'nt received any certificates yet...Are they still looking? Will they notify me if none were found? The birthdates of both were after 1853, so Vitals should have a record of their birth. Any help would be appreciated! Happy New Year everyone! Within just 4 hours or less of my request this morning I had a reply with the information I requested on Rufus AUSTIN. Thank you so much for having this awesome mailing list that has filled in needed information about our family. Ed Scriven
I do not have a huge connection to the AUSTIN family, but I would like to find information about 1 in particular.' My 3g grandmother was Elizabeth CRAIG, maiden name HASTINGS, born in western Pennsylvania on 12 Jun 1804 and died in Garner Township, Pottawattamie, Iowa, on 19 Jan 1896 and buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Council Bluffs. Her obituary says she was living with her daughter, Mrs. Rufus AUSTIN. Our search is for Rufus AUSTIN's birth date, birth place, parents' full names, marriage date and place, death date, and death place. More of importance to us is actually finding out to whom he was married. Possibilities that we have are Mary CRAIG born 28 Aug 1831 in Mercer County, PA; Sarah Elvira CRAIG born there on 16 Jan 1837; or Grace Mariah CRAIG, born there on 24 Apr 1841. We think it is very likely one of these girls, who are sisters to my ancestor Drucilla CRAIG married to Alpheus Clark SCRIVEN, married Rufus AUSTIN in or around Mercer County, PA. On the 1830 census of Crawford County, PA, in Mead there is a family headed by a Rufus AUSTIN, who could be the father of the Rufus AUSTIN we are seeking. If anyone can connect one of these CRAIG girls to Rufus AUSTIN, please let me know post haste. I'd like to get the marriage date and place as stated above and the information on Rufus, and then when and where the wife died. This is absolutely all I know about Rufus or his family. I make inquiries like this frequently looking for information on the spouses of our ancestors' siblings, and then that generates requests from others about information I might have. I am sorry I have nothing else at all on any AUSTIN individuals. I am seeking information on just this one person. Any help anyone has would be wonderful. Good luck to all of you in your research and have a great Holiday season.
There is a surname query list for Austin's. Go to http://www.genforum.com. Enjoy. Vicki

Scot Austin -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, December 13, 1998 4:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Elizabeth Austin/Joseph Finch I am relatively new to the list and wondered if anyone had information on this particular Austin family : Elizabeth Austin who married Joseph FINCH in Stamford, CT in 1670. She apparently was the daughter of John Austin (d.1673) and Catherine ----. Elizabeth may have had two brothers : John and Thomas. I have also noticed there was some speculation that this Austin family was from Kent. Are there any citations anyone can direct me to in order to learn more about this family???
