    2. Susan J Lewis
    3. Francine, I know a bit about these Austins. This line is known as "John of Monongalia." They were compiled for the AFAOA in March. The results of the research are at http://www.rahul.net/afaoa/John_Austin_Mono_VA/John_Austin_Mono_VA.html Currently nothing much is known of the origin of this John. Maryland is doubtful. A number of his descendants mention NJ and a few even mention DE in their census records when referring to parents' birthplaces. The MD probably arises from John's having resided in MD for a time after leaving PA (wife Sarah and oldest son Joseph were born in PA); some of the children were born in MD. I am one of son Joseph's descendants . . . I take it you are descended from John's great grandson Eldridge? 1. Thomas Kendrick of Frederick/Montgomery Co., MD
    2. Does anyone have any connection/information on this Kendrick line? I'm most interested in the Kendrick-Austin relationship. I believe that I am a direct descendant of Charity Kendrick & John Austin. Per Jean Austin King Galau in "The Austin Family - Montgomery Co., MD and Oho Co., KY with Related Lines" (1978), Thomas Kendrick (who married Rebecca Ann Palmer) was born 1706 & died 1735. That info differs from the info I have had passed down to me. Also, as you can see, I have ranges for births for their children. Does anyone have any documented dates? 1. Richard AUSTIN born in OH >WI>ILL
    2. Lynn White
    3. I am looking for information on my mysterious gg-grandfather. The death certificates of two of his children say that his name was Richard AUSTIN and he was born in Ohio. He married Deborah BALLOUGH in approx. 1868, probably in Dodge Co., Wisconsin. The Dodge Co. courthouse burned to the ground, so I have been unable to establish this fact. He had four children. His name has not been included in any of the census records I have of his wife and children. Deborah AUSTIN appears in the 1870 Dodge Co., Wisc. census with her oldest son, Willard AUSTIN, (born approx. 1868 in Dodge Co., Wisc.). Then, I find Deborah in the 1880 Volusia Co., FL census as head of household with her four children, Willard, twins Wheeler and Wilson (born 1874 in Rock Island, Ill.) and daughter, Bessie (born 1872 also in Rock Island Illinois). Deborah apparently moved to Daytona Beach with the children to be near her parents and other siblings. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 2. To Florence and others with Austins and relatives in Sumner Co., TN. From Helen Austin According to Wm. Thorndale and Wm. Dollarhides guidebook, MAP GUIDE TO THE US FEDERAL CENSUS c 1987 GPC Sumner Co, TN in the year 1820 included parts of what later became Macon and Trousdale Co,TN. In 1790 sumer was a very large area including: parts of later Rutherford, Wilson, DeKalb, Putnam, Smith, Jackson, Overton, Trousdale, Robertson, Macon, Clay, Pickett and Fentress Counties. So, you need to look at the boundaries for these counties and check and see if the court house records for the other counties may include your Sumner Co. information. By 1800 Sumer county had been broken up into Sumer, Wilson, and Smith counties, but still included parts of KY. Much of the state of TN in 1790 that was east of Sumner County was Indian Lands except to the far Northeastern counties of Hawkins, Greene, Washington and Sullivan. If you are ever in the town of Gallatin, TN you might want to visit the old city park on the Cumberland River. There is a replica of the old fort that was there, as well as several pioneer houses that were reconstructed on the sight. Some times during the years they have lcostumed living history workers at the fort. It is more interesting than a visit to old Fort Nashborough which was a few miles West on the Cumberland River.

    3. Sharon, I believe I've located the family/ancestors of Ulysses Grant Austin. From the census information I was able to gather, it appears that Ulysses, and his 2 sisters Rachel and Harriet are likely children of Emma Ellis (Is Ellis her last name?)and Allison Austin, and step-children of her 2nd husband John W. Dorrell. 1880 MO, Linn, Bucklin, p 367C John W. Dorrell 23 MO MO MO; Emma 26 MO KY -- Ulysses Austin 7 MO MO MO; Rachel E. Betsey is Betsey Ann Yanky. Both couples were married in Fulton County, IL ( Fulton Co. Marriage records. 1850 IL, Knox County (adjoining Fulton Co.) Jessie and Betsey, and Russell and family. ############################# Jesse and Russell are 2 of the 14 children of John Austin and wife Rachel. This family, for right now, is not a distinct stand-alone database. You can find it on the Austin Families Assn of America Website in the Northern Unplaced Austins. All Austin databases are developed by the Austin Families Assn of America and can be viewed in "group sheet format" at the Austin Families Assn of America Website, www.afaoa.org/ Click on Austin Research- Unplaced- Northern. Search for John Austin, 1787 NY, or the sons Russel or Jessie. You will notice when you locate this family that the first name Allison is very common throughout the family. If you would be interested in "rescuing" your family from the "Unplaced" files, and in being the data-parent/compiler for them, please contact Jan Untener, the Austin Families Assn of America Northern Austins genealogist. She is presently involved in moving to Minnesota, but I'm sure will be of help when possible. Jan: I'll send you some of the Fulton Co. Vitals records I found. 2. From Helen Austin, Re: Place name should be Gallatin. This town is in Sumner Co, TN and was an early pioneer settlement on the Cumberland River just NE of present day Nashville, TN. In 1860 this would have been in Sumner Co. earlier it should be noted that there was disputed territory in NorthSumnerCo. about the KY and TN border (The Walker Line of 1790 to 1859) So, I would suggest searaching KY records as well for your William Austin family.
