    2. Hillcrest History
    3. All Austin's found in the records of Hillcrest Cemetery located on Stanton Rd. in East Point , Ga. Are listed below. This does not include names buried before 1922 back to 1893 (Establishment) as a fire destroyed those records.(If marked, could be found via a foot search) Also, does not include burials from the past 7 years as recent burials were not entered. Some, even though buried in years where burials were being entered in or were not destroyed in the fire may also be missing. If this is the case and you are related and know for sure of a burial not listed, please notify us. If you see someone in your family line and want to know if a cause of death is listed, please email and I will check to see if it happens to be included with that particular burial. 1. Erastus Austin b. 1795 NY
    2. Susan & Gene
    3. I am trying to reach Bonnie or Anna regarding a posting on the Austin list archives regarding Erastus Austin. I believe he was a great-grandfather of my husband through his daughter Harriet, but I have not been able to prove it yet. I have a Harriet who married James Pettit around 1850. The Pettit children were born in Wisconsin. James was a shoemaker enumerated next to Erastus Austin in 1860. In 1870, Erastus and Anna Austin were enumerated in the household with Harriet Pettit, who was widowed. Neither Austin is enumerated with Harriet in 1880, although there is a Thomas Austin enumerated who is also enumerated in Waterloo who might be Harriet's brother. Please let me know if you think there could be a connection. Thank you! Susan familyseeker@everestkc.net

    3. The rest of the story . . . http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_cell_phone_directory.htm 'Do Not Call' List for Cell Phone Users Netlore Archive: Email flier warns that a directory of cell phone numbers will soon be published and urges users to enter their cell phone numbers on a federal 'do not call' list to prevent unsolicited calls from telemarketers Description: Email flier Circulating since: Sep. 2004 Status: Partly true Analysis: See below Email example contributed by Gail E., 14 October 2004: Cell Phone Directory: A directory of cell phone numbers will be published soon. This opens the door to solicitors calling our cell phones using up our minutes. The Federal Trade Commission has set up a do not call list. You must call FROM the number you wish to register, or go to their website at www.donotcall.gov, to be included on the do not call list. The number is 1-888-382-1222. Comments: While it's true that the major wireless phone providers (with the sole exception of Verizon) have announced their intention to compile a directory of customers' cell phone numbers, it isn't true that they plan to publish" said directory for all to see. The numbers will be made available only if customers opt in, and will be accessible only by those who call information and pay a fee. Participating service providers swear the numbers will never be available to telemarketers. Not everyone believes that, however, as evidenced by a privacy protection bill already introduced in Congress which would modify the plan to allow 411 callers to be directly connected to requested parties but would not allow those parties' numbers to be given out. It remains to be seen precisely what form the cell phone "directory" will ultimately take. Meanwhile, the Federal Trade Commission does allow worried cell phone users to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry — the same one that is already in force for landlines — either online or by calling 1-888-382-1222 . 3. The Edward Austin line (Edith Austin Moore's line) differs from the Robert Austin line in two markers, but one of those two markers is two mutations off, which apparently makes a difference. You should note that the DNA for the Robert Austin line and the Jonah Austin line match, making it just as likely that Edith Austin Moore was closely related to Jonah Austin of Tenterden, Kent, as to Robert. It seems likely that Robert Austin's ancestry might be found in Kent as well. Carol Austin

    3. Carl, To view The Austin DNA Project, go to http://www.austins.org/cgi-bin/DNAsummary20041108.pdf. or access it from "Projects" at the top of the AOAGS Website at www.austins.org The Edith Austin Moore related test is # 20710. Although it is not highlighted with the "Robert Austin of RI" group, it is only 2 markers off the normed markers. Markers 2 and 6. As near as I can tell from trying to understand what that means, from reading material both on this Website and others, it means that the DNA donor's family is related to, in this case, Robert Austin. But that the "Common Ancestor" is not a father or grandfather, but is much further back. Hopefully, someday further research back into the English origins of both lines will reveal the connection. Edith Austin Moore herself was never able to make the connection, and her Edward Austin ancestor's line was listed in the back of her original book, page 470 along with other possible, but unplaced lines. At the Austin Families Assn of America Website, www.afaoa.org/ , at the present time, Edward was attached as the son of an unknown son of Edward Austin and Isabel Hardy. This is noted as speculation. In a future update, that line will return to "Northern Unplaced Austins" Liz Austin Carlin Genealogist Austin Families Assn of America. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carl Hommel" <chommel6@comcast.net> To: <AUSTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2004 5:45 PM Subject: September 2004 Newsletter > The September 2004 issue of the Austins of America Genealogical Society > Newsletter, which I received today, says on the last page (!) that a DNA > test proved that a nephew of Edith Austin Moore was not descended from > Robert Austin of Kingston, RI. > > Since this is rather a startling bit of news, I hope that some follow-up > infomation could be provided to people, such as me, who based their > descent from Robert Austin on Mrs. Moore's book. > > Is it known when and where the disconnect ocurred? 3. The September 2004 issue of the Austins of America Genealogical Society Newsletter, which I received today, says on the last page (!) that a DNA test proved that a nephew of Edith Austin Moore was not descended from Robert Austin of Kingston, RI. Since this is rather a startling bit of news, I hope that some follow-up infomation could be provided to people, such as me, who based their descent from Robert Austin on Mrs. Moore's book. Is it known when and where the disconnect ocurred? If we are not descended from Robert, how many of the Jeremiah's were? I hope that we can receive further information soon, or at least a report on what progress is being undertaken to answer our concerns. Carl Hommel

    2. From Helen Austin, Decatur, AL Dear Liz Carlin, Can you please tell me what census location for the 1830 period would be important for further research on the Austin line you mentioned in the recent Austin LIST? In a message dated 10/2/2004 12:00:42 PM Central Daylight Time, AUSTIN-D-request@rootsweb.com (Liz Carlin) writes: I noted at the time that they seemed to be related to the NC-SC-GA-AL " William and Ruth Austin " line. After checking out the 1840 Franklin Co., Alabama census for Richard, I feel very confident that he is the "Richard", son of Michael Austin, 1759 Ireland of the "William and Ruth Austin" line. As you probably remember, Liz, I am interested in any Austin families that migrated from NC/SC across AL in the period from 1800 to 1850. I am still searching for a family that Was in TN in 1824 (birth of Nancy Austin) and 1831 (Birth of John C. Austin). Both Nancy and John were living in North Alabama before 1860 and according to marriages of Morgan County both were married during the previous decade. I will look at the web page for the William and Ruth Austin Line when it is up. Thanks for posting this information. Helen

    3. Jane, I have taken a while to reply to your query, because, when I looked at your 1850 Census reference, Nancy was next to her apparent brother Michael Austin, who was next to her apparent father Richard Austin, and I wanted to check them out. I noted at the time that they seemed to be related to the NC-SC-GA-AL " William and Ruth Austin " line. After checking out the 1840 Franklin Co., Alabama census for Richard, I feel very confident that he is the "Richard", son of Michael Austin, 1759 Ireland of the "William and Ruth Austin" line. Nancy' s brother Michael has been moved from the "Southern Unplaced Austins" to the "William and Ruth Austin" line, and Nancy and her family, and the children of Richard Austin from the 1850 census have been added to "William and Ruth Austin" line. Unfortunately, the "Unplaced" and the "William and Ruth" lines have just been updated on the Website, so you will not see this present Update just yet. However, you will find your pertinent information in the above files. All Austin databases are developed and maintained by the genealogists and compilers of the Austin Families Assn of America. They can be viewed in "group sheet format" at the Austin Families Assn of America Website, www.afaoa.org/ Click on Austin Research. To read the database like a "book" narrative-by generation style, go to the Austin-Austen Research Center, www.aoags.org/ResearchCenter/ . You cannot print out AARC documents unless you are a member of one of the Austin groups that support it - so, of course, we suggest AFAOA. ) . Additions/corrections to the database, can ONLY be made to the live people at the Austin Families Assn of America Website www.afaoa.org/ .
