Rene, I've checked the CA Death Index 1940-2000 and don't find anyone who seems to fit your description. There are a number of George Austins listed, but no George T. Austin born c1920 who died in the late 1960s or early '70s in Los Angeles Co. None of the others seem to fit either. Only one was listed as having been born in GA in 1864. From Helen Austin Dear Steve, I knew Don Austin and corresponded with him about his genealogy before 1990. I will need to look up my files. I sent him a gedcom of the files of the Descendants of John Calhoun Austin b 1831 TN, d in Lawrence Co, AL. If we are talking about the same Don Austin he had a trucking company in AZ. His mother and brother were here at the funeral and I met them at Old Brick Cemetery in 1991. So, he is a Lauderdale Co, Colbert Co, Lawrence Co, AL Austin. I don't know about Laura. She may have been one of the adopted children. I will have to look in my database. You can write to me directly at AustinART@aol.com
I am trying to get in contact with either Philip Austin or Douglas Austin. What I know about them: They were adopted. They were sons of George Don Austin and Laura Sue Rogers Austin. A Christmas picture from 1948 leads me to believe that both were probably born between 1942-1947. Laura was from Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama. She attended Freed-Hardman College in Henderson, Tennessee. She may have met Don Austin in Alabama or Indiana or Michigan. Laura died in Littleton (Denver), Colorado maybe 1955. Don Austin may have came from Alabama or Indiana or Michigan. He died in Mesa, Arizona, maybe 1991. I think he had remarried and had one son by 2nd wife. If you have any information please contact: Steve Cooper 11415 Highway 157 Florence, Alabama 35633 stevecooper75@comcast.net
Johnny Pannell pannellj@cstel.net is trying to locate Austin (and Pannell) descendants of the early Austins in the Sandy Springs area. Sandy Springs was formerly known as Oak Grove. Besides locating family, Johnny would like to generate support for the upkeep of the Sandy Springs United Methodist Historic Cemetery, where the early family members who were church founders are buried. Can anyone help with dates for this Ambrose Austin, son of James Austin & Ann Nancy Howard? I have a photo of a gravestone for a "Benedict Austin" born April 19, 1804 and died Jan. 10, 1855. I'm wondering if this is Ambrose, or perhaps another Benedict? Ambrose is a brother to my Benedict Austin who married Margaret Yates. I think perhaps some of James Austin & Nancy Howard's sons had James or Benedict as part of their names. I think perhaps James' own name was James Benedic t. Alinda, In the 1850 PA, Tioga, Jackson town census, there is George Austin 31 NY farmer; Mary 29 NY; Abigail 10 NY; Samuel 8 NY; Adam 6 PA; George 4 PA; Jerome 2 PA and a Martha Stevens 17 NY. In 1880, George, Mary and Adam are in MI, Jackson, Springport. Since Tioga County PA is right on the New York state border, many Tioga families came through Chautauqua Co., Cattaraugus Co.,.....
