Hi List I'm new and would like to introduce myself; My name is Peter Austen and I live in South-east England, fairly close to Gatwick airport. My oldest traced relative is my GGG Grandfather William Austen who was born c1777 in or near Leigh Kent, he married Sarah Chatfield at Leigh parish church 15 SEP 1805 . They then turn up in Weald Village near Sevenoaks on the 1841 census. They produced three sons William 1811 ( my GG Grandfather ) Edmund 1815 and John1821. I have substantial history of my line after this and would be delighted to share it with anyone who has , or thinks they have , a tie in. I would especially be interested in any info re William pre 1800. regards Peter Austen

Douglas Austin In my research, I am trying to find a Douglas Austin that I believe may have lived in the Atlanta area in the 1980's or 1990's and may still live in the area. I have been told that he did medical photography or surgical photography. Can anyone help me by maybe giving me the name of a business that he may own or may have owned in the past. He was the son of Don Austin and Laura Sue Rogers Austin and he grew up in Colorado. He and his brother Phillip Austin were adopted. Sorry, this is all I have on him. Does anyone out there know the genealogy for a T. J. Austin, Pvt. in the 9th AL Regiment of the CSA ? His father was said to be a William Austin of Fox Creek, North Alabama. In SAUNDERS, EARLY SETTLERS OF ALABAMA, page 169, Saunders says, "T. J. Austin, was severely wounded in the battle of Sharpsburg, and sent home by the surgeon, lingered awhile and died." Where was T.J. and William in the census of 1860? I am wondering if they could be related to my John C. Austin, of Morgan, Winston and Lawrence Co. AL ? He was born in 1831 TN and died 1907 Lawrence Co, AL. Helen

The Austin Families Association of America (AFAOA) is pleased to announce the recent update to the "Richard Austin of Charlestown, MA" descendancy book. It and 39 other Austin-line databases and descendancy books are continuously being updated and corrected. You can do a Database Search, which produces a Family Group Sheet or, you can do a text search on the descendancy "book" at the AFAOA site www.afaoa.org. Austin researchers are CAUTIONED that earlier versions of the descendancy books still appear on the Austen-Austin Research Center (AARC). These documents are no longer being supported or maintained by the AFAOA at this site,. Austin researchers are encouraged to explore and use all other documents available at both sites. Helen, Bryant appears to be the 1st child of John Austin and Elizabeth Rodgers. John R. Austin ( on the 1st AL Website ) is the 2nd child of same. They are descendants of "NC William and Ruth Austin". "NC William and Ruth Austin" is on the Austin Families Assn of America Website www.afaoa.org . You can see it in Family Group Sheet style by going to Research - Southern databases - NC William and Ruth . Or to see it "book" style go to the Text Document Search - Descendancy Books. When searching on a name in Text , there is one minor annoyance, since the Search will only find "exact" matches. When the person is born, or is a parent, no problem. But when the person is the "head" person, there is a Generation Number between the first and last name, and the Search will not locate the person. To find the "Head" and his/her family, search on the parent's name. Another 1st Alabama Cavalry enlistee Sanders Austin is also part of this family, son of Charles Austin and Betsey Nance. Jasper and Jesse W. seem promising, but we have no data on them. Keep in mind that the Mississippi and Alabama towns and counties mentioned are very close to each other at the northern border of MS/AL. I would caution anyone using these family histories to do so with some skepticism. Most of them are not documented and you will find errors in them. As always, do your own research and compare your findings to what you find in these books. From Helen Austin To Steve, Wayne and others Re: The Don and Phillip Austin of Colbert Co, AL that I know about. My last message from Phillip Bary Austin was in the year 2004. He was born in 1949 in Colbert Co, AL and his wife is Debbie Tippet. His children are Aaron and Chris. His brother Donald O;Neil Austin was born 13 Nov 1942 in Colbert Co, AL (Red Brick community). I did not record his death date but it was after 1998 and before 2004. His funeral was at the Old Brick Presbyterian Cemetery. His mother and brother, Phillip were at the funeral. Don died in AZ near Phoenix where he had a trucking company. Don married Wanda Fay Goss and his children are Donna G., Gary Lando and Gregory. I believe they still live in AZ and run the trucking company. Don and Phillip were the children of the late Alvie Lando Austin b 20, Sep 1921, died 19 Apr 1967. Lando was in the U.S. Army in WW II and served in 184201844, /ge received a Purple Heart Medal. Alvie married Virginia South. They lived in Missouri between 1940 and 1950 and then returned to Colbert Co, AL, to the Hatton, Red Brick Community. Alvie Lando was one of the many sons of John Harvey Austin. J. H. was b 29 Apr 1876 in Morgan Co, AL His wife was Henrietta E. Flannagin of Lawrence Co., AL. John Harvey Austin was a son of John Calhoun Austin b 25 Nov 1831 and Mary Easter Edwards b Feb 1840 Morgan Co, AL. Both died at Mountain Springs, Lawrence Co, AL. J. C. Austin had children by two other wives, Elizabeth Edwards and Margaret Henderson Simmons. =============== Wayne mentioned that his Austin ancestors moved from Lincoln Co, TN to Sheffield , Colbert Co, AL in 1940 and then to the Brick Church Community in 1964. Can you tell me if any of that Austin Branch is also burred in the Brick Church Cemetery? Can you tell me the names of the heirs named in the 1831 will in Lincoln Co, TN of your ancestor, Drury Austin? I am still searching for relatives in TN of our John C. Austin. His parents were both born in SC and were living in TN from at least 1824 until 1831 or later. I know he had a sister named Nancy Austin who was born 1824 in TN. She married a William Lott in Morgan Co, AL. I am hoping that the heirs of your Drury/Drewry Austin are traceable. I think there was a Drewry Austin who came from Fairfield Co, SC as did the George Lott who was a progenitor of the William Lott who married Nancy Austin and the Elizabeth and Mary Easter Edwards who married our John C. Austin. George Lott, Sr. named his daughter as a wife to a Joseph Austin of Fairfield Co, SC. These are the threads that I have.
