Hi Annie, how many poems did your Grandfrather write? You should think about putting them in a book, they are lovely! Cheers, Robynne ----- Original Message ----- From: Annie, Bill and Liam Stuart To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, September 22, 2001 1:29 PM Subject: [A.G.R. ] Another poem to share My dear grandfather Richard Fuller Chapman (1883-1972) was a soldier in the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles and later in the New Zealand Mounted Rifles. Here is another of his poems. Two Minutes Silence. The city's turmoil hems me in With hurried noise of traffic's din, And yet my thoughts to silence wing Where poppies wave o'er a warrior's grave. All heads are bared, all sounds are stilled, All movement ceases, as the killed Who lie neath other skies are stilled, Where poppies wave o'er a warrior's grave In distant lands or neath the deep Old comrades sleep their long last sleep, In sprit still my watch I keep, Where poppies wave o'er a warriors grave. Reveille sounds, the trumpets bray, The city's din resumes its sway, And I return from far away, Where poppies wave o'er a warrior's grave. Best wishes Annie Stuart [email protected]
