I have a photo taken in Massachusetts without photographers name. I am assuming this was taken by a camera privately owned. I have an album from the 1800's and in this album are several photos taken in Australia, again apparently privately taken. My question is, when did cameras become available to public. I have heard that in Australia it wasn't until late in the 1800's but am wondering if they were available earlier than this in the States. My g'g travelled back and forth on a regular basis to theStates from the 1860's thru to early 1900's, so if cameras were available in the States earlier than here then it is highly possible he would have bought one there. He had a passion for anything mechanical and was always importing things from the States for the hell of it! This would help me get an approximate date on this photos.
