Hello Listers A Scottish cousin has emailed me about some family births that took place in Australia in the 1840s with the family returning to Scotland after that. The parents were Robert LEIGHTON and Elizabeth Smart DAVIS m. 1839 (presumably in Australia). The record doesn't mention in which State the births too place, but there is reference on the web site of the National Library of Australia to 8 letters written by an Elizabeth Smart LEIGHTON to her friend Dorothy WHITE in England, referring to pioneering life in Parramatta and Bathurst. This seems to be the same Elizabeth. The children are: 1. Alexander Robert LEIGHTON, b. cir 1840, died 30 JUN 1859 (but she doesn't say where). 2. Catherine E LEIGHTON, b. cir 1842 (married 1860 in Scotland so 1859 Death probably Scotland too). 3. Wilhelmina Davis LEIGHTON, b. cir 1843. 4. Eliza LEIGHTON, b. cir 1844 (d 1 NOV 1854 - ? Scotland) 5. Georgiana LEIGHTON, b cir 1847 (d 12 MAR 1851 - ? Scotland) 6. Lucy J LEIGHTON b. cir 1848. Is there a way on-line that my cousin in Scotland can check NSW immigration records?
