from Grolier Encyclopaedia under heading CARVOSSO, Benjamin CARVOSSO, (1789-1854), Wesleyan minister was born in Cluvais in Cornwall, England. he was the son of an evangelist, William CARVOSSO, and entered the ministry in 1814. He arrived in Sydney in 1820 and during his five years' stay he, with Walter LAWRY and Ralph MANSFIELD, edited the "Australian Magazine". During the same time he helped to establish a floating chapel for seamen, the first service being held in the brig LYNX in 1822.
