under heading CASTLEREAGH RIVER An inland stream which rises in the Warrumbungle Range, NSW and flows eastward through Coonabarabran, south ward through Binnaway and Mendooran, thin in a generally north-westerly direction through Gilgandra and Coonamble to join the Macquarie near that river's confluence with the Darling. It has an estimated length of 340 miles. It was discovered in 1818 by George William EVANS (q.v.) when he was with John OXLEY'S expedition and was explored by Charles STURT in 1829.
