Hi everyone, I'm trying to find family history on the Jones family who own the 'David Jones' store chain. Obviously starting with David Jones, I know he came from Wales and I've found this snippet of information on the net... 1838 - May David Jones, after dissolving his two year partnership with Charles Appleton, opened his first store in George Street, opposite the GPO. Within 10 years, it was known affectionately as DJs. Jones retired 1857, selling the store to the partnership of Thompson and Simmonds. They proceeded to take the thriving business to bankruptcy within three years. Jones again took control, and within a few years had paid the creditors 20 shillings in the pound. This time, he left the management to his son, Edward Lloyd Jones, and by 1938, the firm had expanded to its current three large city stores. I've gone through 400 odd listings of David Jones family history/genealogy and can't find anyone researching this family. Most of the listings were for David Jones Store related stories or people stating an ancestor had onced worked for David Jones! I'm trying to find out whether another 'David Jones' who built 'The Towers' at Belmore NSW, in 1888 is a descendant of David & Jane Jones. I believe David Jones' son, Edward Lloyd Jones (b.1844 Sydney) married Helen Ann Jones in 1868. I found another snippet stating Edward L Jones was killed in a train accident in 1894. Can anyone help? Kind regards, Sherrie Blackman. Sydney.
