Hi, There is a group of people doing "The Ryerson Index".....these volunteers type up the deaths/funerals from their local papers. SITE: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswsdps Hope this is of some help. Might I just add that John Graham is "always" looking for more volunteers. <VBG> Cheerio Shirley (I am helping with the Courier Mail and the Queensland Times). The "Dead Persons Society of Toowoomba" site has funerals notices for a few papers also

Hi there I notice that some people have obtained death dates that are more recent than those available at the State Library indexes. How do you find these? Is it just a matter of trawling through funeral notices if one has an approximate date or am I missing something? Dear All, I have been researching the Speare family tree for the past few years now and have made contact with a large number of the current day Speare's in the UK, Canada, Australia & US and have found that a most of them have links to the Devon area. This October I am organising an International gathering of the Speare family in St Charles, Illinois near Chicago and am trying to fill in a few gaps on the family tree before the event. If you know of any Speare family members on your family tree I would love to hear from you. Best wishes Thomas www.speare.org.uk -- Thomas Peeke

The USA & Australia - 'snippets', 1854 style Just to cheer you all up, a couple of quotes from 1854: "A young lady, a native of Sydney, being asked if she should like to go to Britain, answered that she should like to see it, but not to live in it. On being pressed for her reason, she replied that, from the great number of bad people sent out from thence it must be a very wicked place to live in!" "Nearly all the suicides in this country are by foreigners. Yankees rarely make away with themselves; for nearly every one thinks he has a chance of becoming President, and at any rate, his curiosity prompts him to live on, just to see what he WILL come to!"
Hi List, Was wondering if someone could spare the time to look up the death of a John William TAYLOR who would have died between 1912 & 1937 in Victoria. He was apparently born in New Zealand about 1860. I know this is a very common name, but unfortunately that's all the information I have. Thanks Jenny

I am interested in the family of LEWIS of the Ballarat region, settling there c1853. William LEWIS married Ann Keating. Claire
Jill, That's why it threw me a bit, because other certificates I have come across where the parents weren't married, usually has the space for the father blank or unknown is written. In this case the father was the informant (no declaration) so I figure if they were married, then it would say so........the conflicting bit is that according to the mother's death certificate, she died 4 years later in 1912, they would have been married for 10 years, putting their marriage date at about 1902 in New Zealand, 6 years before ?their child's birth, but no marriage has been found. The death certificate lists an authorized agent as the informant, but I am wondering, where do these authorized agents get their information from? I have a Victorian birth certificate from 1908 where the mother is listed as Edith Campbell, maiden name Wissing, the father is listed as John Taylor. The column where it asks "when & where married" is blank, not even a stroke through the column.....is it safe to say that John and Edith were not married....the informant was the father John Taylor.
