    1. [A.G.R. ] Civil Engineers Obituaries 1890
    2. The Steel Family
    3. Hello List members I am trying to access an obituary from 1890 which I found listed online in an index done in New Zealand. Does anyone know where I might find these Proceedings in Australia? - see below Perhaps someone on the list has already accessed them. I have tried the National Library and Queensland State Library catalogues without success. William Heron STEEL was Inspector-General of Public Works in Victoria when he contracted diphtheria and brought it home to his family, three of his four young children dying a couple of days before he did on Christmas Day in 1889. Thank you Sally Steel at Mareeba Some of you may have come across this web site. http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/nzsoghamilton/obituaries.htm Minutes of Proceedings - Institution of Civil Engineers (England). Obituaries of Members of the Institution Indexed by Antonia Jones with the help of members of the NZ Society of Genealogists Hamilton Branch Years indexed to date : 1880 - 1904 Contents : Summary of obituaries for the Members of the Institution of Civil Engineers of England (does not include Associate members or Graduate members). A brief indication of date and place of birth and death and particulars of occupation where available. Vol. 149 (1901/2) missing. These obituaries may be obtained in New Zealand through the Interloan system, quoting name, year, volume and page. The Minutes of the Proceedings are presently held at Auckland Public Library, Auckland University Engineering Library, Auckland Institute Museum Library and Christchurch University Engineering Library, though no library has a full set. They are available in Australia and Great Britain where they are also accessible through the Interloan system. They may be available in other countries. The individual obituaries are worth obtaining as they contain very full descriptions of the life and work of the individual, and often list names of parents, and occasionally wives and children. Although the majority of them are British born, there are those born in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and India, as well as other distant places. Many of them worked and died in these countries and left family there. It is hoped that eventually all the obituaries, from 1837 - 1920, will be listed in this format.

    3. Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with information on the locations of 2 old Brisbane cemetaries where my gg grandparents were buried and the location of any records that might be available. My gggfather Frederick Beattie died 30 January 1884. According to his death certificate he was buried at Kangaroo Point Cemetary on 31 January 1884 by C of E Minister DA Court (I think). The undertaker was Pat McCabe. Frederick's wife Ann(e) Beattie (nee Willey) died 28 December 1908 in Brisbane and was buried at Bulimba Cemetary. I don't have any other details for her burial at the moment, but should know more in a month. Thanks Jenny.

    3. Hi All, I have just uploaded my latest index ( http://www.oldnewscopy.com ) with the Victoria Police Gazette of February 1855. It has a lot of info about N.S.W. crime reports etc. Below is a piece which would be fantastic if he belonged to me!!!! I hope it helps someone. It is good for a laugh even if it he is not connected. Cheers Jacqui Cunningham Central Victoria "Victoria Police Gazette, February 16, 1855, page 37. Sydney Crime Reports, 15th January, 1855. Constable Dismissed. - From the Tamworth Constabulary, on 8th January, Jeremiah O'MULLEN for insubordination, and racing a Government horse for a wager, and drunkenness. The following description of Jeremiah O'MULLEN and John DONOHOE, late of Tamworth Police, is published at the request of the Police magistrate, to prevent their being again employed in the Government service: - Jeremiah O' MULLEN, aged 33 years, height 5 feet 10 inches, ruddy complexion, down looking, hair brown, eyes grey, scar on the right cheek, was formerly a private in the 11th Regiment, has been in the Police at Warwick, Drayton, and Warilda, and dismissed from Tamworth for gross misconduct on the 8th instant. John DONOHOE, aged 45, height 5 feet 6 inches, ruddy complexion, brown hair, mixed with grey, formerly a prisoner of the Crown, and lived with Major DRUIT. This man entered into a combination with O'MULLEN, and tendered his resignation; he also was in company with O'MULLEN when they allowed a prisoner to escape, but was not the constable who had full charge of the escort."
