The people in the passport offices would probably be able to tell you what was when, or at least point you in the right direction to find out. (Dept of Foreign Affaris and Trade.) 1. [A.G.R. ] Here is something that could interest many?
    2. Raymond W Henderson
    3. This was sent to another list but I think many would appreciate the help in understanding in how our relationships work! ************************************************************ It's really easy to figure out cousin relationships if you just draw yourself a ladder as follows: A -------- B siblings C -------- D 1st cousins E -------- F 2nd cousins G --------- H 3rd cousins At the top, A and B are siblings. Everyone below A and B are the children of the person above (i.e. C is the child of A; E is the child of C; D is the child of B, etc.). Going straight across the rungs, the relationships are as indicated above. Going diagonally across the ladder, the relationships are taken from the higher horizontal and are 'removed' by the number of generations difference. So, you can see that C and D are first cousins, but C and F are first cousins, once removed. C and H are first cousins, twice removed. E and H are second cousins, once removed. You can go on forever with this.

    3. ANNIE WILSON - UK to AUS after 1909 Do any of the following names ring a bell? have they cropped up in your family history? if so please let me know. ANNIE WILSON gave her address in 1909 as 40 Peacock Street West, SUNDERLAND, UK. (I am working on the principle that Wilson was Annie's maiden name). Annie had an older? sister, Nellie, who I understand, married a DANBY and became part of the FASNACHT-DANBY (Fasnaught?-Danby) TROUPE of comedians and dancers who toured the Music Halls in Northern England and Scotland in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Annie is thought to have left the UK, possibly bound for AUSTRALIA, sometime after 1909, (there is a remote possibility that she may have married a McMann, Mc Mahon or Mann). There is a connection to the village of CRAKEHALL in NORTH YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND where the DANBY name appears. Perhaps "Annie" was a family name for Anne or Mary Anne and "Nellie" possibly Ellen or Eleanor? Here's hoping that my Annie Wilson was your ancestor who arrived in Australia after 1909 from the northern area of England. I have been unable to break through the proverbial 'brick wall' years of searching haven't displaced a single brick! 3. How interesting Annie! I know that Australian women who married American servicemen during WW11, and went to USA to live, automatically lost their Australian citizenship, but I didn't know that happened if one remained in this country. I wonder when it changed? I certainly remained an Aussie on marriage to a German in 1955. 3. Hello all, Just wanted to share this interesting piece of Australian history with you. My great grandmother Katherine(Katie) Cameron was born in Queensland in 1873. She married my great grandfather Lars Peter BEK(who was born in Denmark in 1861) in Sydney in 1898. As a result of this marriage Katie lost her Australian citizenship. Why? Well Lars was not a British subject so therefore the Australian government considered him to to be an "alien." so once Katie married Lars she also became an "alien" simply because she married Danish born Lars. Interesting? Yes I think so but it gets better. Just before he died in 1934 Lars applied for Australian citizenship. Why? To restore his wife's Australian citizenship. Why? Well presumably so that Katie could obtain an Australian pension. The trouble was that although Lars was approved as a citizen he died two days before the Governer General signed his Certificate of Naturalisation? Katie was informed that under the crcumstances her citizenship would be restored to her on receipt of a fee of five shillings plus a whole lot of paper work.( I have the copies) She paid, supplied the necessary paperwork and Australian born Katie Cameron BEK was once again an Australian citizen. This all happened a long time ago but I guess it just goes to show how times have (thankfully )changed. Best wishes to all Annie Stuart [email protected]

    3. Hi all, Thanks to everyone who has replied to my request for information about the locations of the Bulimba and Kangaroo Point Cemetaries in Brisbane. I think I have replied to everyone individually but if not, this is my thank you. Unfortunately the Brisbane City Council does not appear to have any record of my ancestors' burials. A very helpful lady at the Anglican Church archives did find a reference to the creation of the Kangaroo Point Cemetary in the 1860s but does not give a location. Anyway, we will keep looking. I will try to find some old maps of Brisbane to see if there is any reference to that cemetary. Thanks again to everyone. It is great to know that there are so many helpful, friendly people out there. Regards, Jenny in (mostly) sunny Central Queensland
