    1. [A.G.R. ] SS Ventura, 1901 passenger lists
    2. Marilyn Nevala
    3. Dear List, I am trying to locate the passenger list for the ship Ventura, which left Auckland New Zealand on 25 Aug 1901, arriving in San Francisco on 15 September 1901. Both my grandfather (who resided in Dunedin) and my grandmother (who resided in Melbourne) were on this ship, where they met and later married. Would anyone know of an archives or a library that might have this info, or a microfilm? I have tried to find this ship in the arrivals in San Francisco with no success. Thanks for your help. 3. A slight clarification, in Australia we have the PAL Television system as used in much of Europe. In the U.S.A. they use the NTSC (never the same colour) Television system, the signals of the two are incompatible, however some modern machines, both TV's and Videos have the ability to be switched from one system to the other. Hence the situation of some people being able to watch the videos and some not. The VHS system refers to the method of storing the signal on the video tape and not the type of signal on the tape. Most videos are nowadays VHS however there are probably some who still have the old (and better) BETA sytem but they are few and far between. You can liken the beta and vhs argument to PC and Mac in computers every one knows that Mac is better but not many buy them cos you cant get the same amount of purpose made software etc. just as you don't see many beta videos in the video stores! 3. Hi Denise, Cheryl and All. As Cheryl said, it is not that "newer" We purchased ours 18 months before the movie Free Willy came out as our friends had sent the video to my boys as a Xmas present. that is a few years back now. At the time it was about the same price for one that played the US videos, but dearer by a long way for one that would record in that medium. 1. [A.G.R. ] LEECH/WATT N.S.W.
    2. G & J Cunningham
    3. Hi List, I just love some of the descriptions they used. But poor old Joseph LEECH may have had no choice but to take Letitia WATT. I have uploaded the Gazette index to 20/4/1855 onto the web site. (see signature) Victoria Police Gazette, April 20, 1855: Extracts from N.S.W. Crime Reports. "Joseph LEECH is charged with stealing, at 9 o'clock in the evening of the 7th day of March, 1855, four blankets, several shirts, and about eight pounds in money, in one pound notes, the property of Joseph WATT, at Greenhills. Joseph LEECH is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion with burly face, light hair, walks very badly, having had a bad leg for many years, and has very short feet; dressed in moleskin trousers, Scotch twill shirt, blue frock, cabbage-tree hat, and laced-up boots. He left in company with the wife of the man he robbed, who is a tall masculine woman, of fair complexion and light hair; she has a large nose, with a deep dent on the bridge, is about 35 years of age, and very wild in her behaviour. The parties have been seen making for Goulburn, and the woman has taken the name DAVIS, who says she has a husband in that town. Joseph WATT offers a reward of five pounds for the apprehension of LEECH and his wife, Letitia WATT. Warrants have been granted by the Shoalhaven Bench." 3. Dear Denise, As far as I know they will not work in Australia, you will have to take it and have it converted to our system. OK if from the UK. Sorry about that. I used to get my sister to send the latest Walt Disney films for my kids as we in Australia would get them a few years later and I had them converted. Best wishes Amanda
