Hi All, A bit off topic but I had a letter regarding the family history but am having trouble reading the address of the sender. If someone on the list is in Victoria could they let me know if there is something in the street directory that looks like this "Antibes or Andibes Street, Parkdal, 3194 Vic" I tried the white pages on line but couldn't come up with that surname at an address that looks like this. Thanks heaps, Sharon -- Sharon McBride Perth, Western Australia Mailto:[email protected] Research Interests http://members.iinet.net.au/~mcbride/
Dear All, May I just say a huge thank you to all the very kind people who took the time to contact me with information and suggestions concerning my missing ancestors WILLIAM BROWNE born Somerset UK c. 1830 & ELIZA LITTLE born Belfast Ireland c. 1839. The kindness of each and every one of you is gratefully appreciated. To the person who felt that as this was my first posting to the mailing list I needed a lecture & to be reprimanded, I hope you had an enjoyable day as you did nothing for mine. Other than crushing any thought I may have had of posting any other requests for help. It is people such as yourself who undo all the good and kindness of others on the list. As a disabled person unable to vist records centres without the assistance of a carer, sometimes it is only through the kindness of others that information or a lead can be found. Perhaps you should have remebered the old adage "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all" Sandy Gold Coast _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
To the kind lookup'er. Did any of these 3 DARLEYs have children? They were all born in Victoria, Australia. George Alfred Feather DARLEY (1879-1953) married 1917 Martha Elizabeth DAWE (1881-1939). Edith Maude DARLEY (1880-?) William Jonathan DARLEY (1883 -?) married 1918 Annie May JONES (?-?) Regards Helene :-) Copenhagen, Denmark p.s. I know by now that the CD's only go up to the year 1920.
To one of all the nice lookups volunteers. What does Diggers has on: Frederick John Bousfield? Are Diggers just for Victoria or all of Australia? I know F. J. Bousfield married Phyllis Dancocks (about 1920 -1963) in about 1944 in Subiaco, Western Australia, Australia. - Subicaco I've found very close to Perth. A suburb today I think. Phyllis Dancocks was born in Perth, Western Australia (WA), Australia. She lived in WA for 25 years and in Victoria for 18 years. They had one daughter in about 1945, Marilyn. If any by Great Chance knows her, needless to say I am interested! :-) >From Helene Munch Copenhagen, Denmark

Listers., I am trying to contact anyone who may be a descendant, or have an interest in, the following... John James MAIN (aka McLEOD) and Ann WALLING... and their daughter Caroline Maria MAIN (born 1889 Collingwood Victoria ) and who married Philip Paul LOWE, (born c1886 Sydney, NSW) . I have no marriage details except a possible date of 1909 in Newtown, Sydney. I understand the Lowe/Main marriage may also have had produced the following sons between 1910 and 1917., Philip, John., Daniel and William. My interests lie mainly with the MAIN/WALLING families but I would delight in completing some detail re the Walling/Lowe branches of this tree of ours. I have a large data-base on the Main side of the family which I would be delighted in sharing. And as an aside, can someone tell me why I cannot seem to subscribe to Australia-L (etc) ? Is it still going ? Regards Dave
Hello Listers I'm enquiring for a cousin in Edinburgh - who kindly looks things up at New Register House for me! Robert LEIGHTON married Elizabeth Smart DAVIS in NSW (in the Bathurst area) in 1838. In reply to a previous posting, I was sent details of the marriage record and the baptisms of the children. However, both were born in Scotland (whence they returned some 10 years and six children later). Is there someone who would be going to the State Archives (I'm not sure what it is called these days) repository at the Rocks, soon, who could check the Immigration Index to see when either or both of these people came to Australia, please? I'm afraid I don't know the names of either set of parents. I do know, however, that Robert was born in 1810, so is not at all likely to be the convict who arrived in the "Agamemnon" in 1820 following conviction in the south of England. Elizabeth's birth could have been as late as 1820, making her about 18 at marriage. Of course, she may have been older. I'm guessing at arrivals in the 1830s. Many thanks. Hi I have been watching for a little while and thought i might ask some help. I have a William Henry Mckean married twice first in Bathurst area NSW to a Sarah ? Then in Clermont area to a Adelaide Helen Smith. His marriage certificate to second wife just says Widow. His death certificate gives Ist wifes name as Sarah Salt I cannot find a Birth for this mckean in Bathurst although I did find his parents Marriage in Bathurst the same year. John Mckean (doctor) and Ma(r)y Scott.Unfortunaely the mariage certificate of parents gave nothing. I am finding this man hard to track although he was well known in Clermont run for Parliment but lost by 2 votes. not sure when but written in his obituary. i know he went to Rockhampton goal around 1889 for cattle duffing?? I think. And i know he had other children. Adelaide Henrietta Mckean whose mother is listed as MAry smith in Qld.Wrote asking for Cattle permit which was denied as father was in Goal and she was only 14 years. How can I find out more from up here in north Qld on his NSW history. Any advise accepted. Many thanks Julie Mclean
Newspaper for the Manning River area could be the "Manning Times" not completely sure though. I don't know the name of the Quirindi newspaper, but if you can get to Armidale, UNE has microfilms of many of the newspapers on the North Coast and the New England area. As far as I know anyone can use the Library but it would be advisable to contact the Uni before making the trip. The library is known as the DIXSON library. Hi I'm new to genealogy in Australia & the mailing list and am hoping someone may be able to help me, as I seem to have struck a brick wall. Am trying to find the birth of the children of William Browne & Eliza (nee: Little). Have been able to find the births of their first 5 children born in the Collingwood/Fitzroy areas between 1863 - 1871. However haven't been able to find any records for the births of their last 3 children. William born abt. 1874; Ellen/Nellie born abt. 1881 and Elizabeth born between 1874-1881. Possible that the family left Victoria for a time, but not sure.... When one of the daughters of William & Eliza married in Collingwood 1885 he is stated as being deceased. Have purchased several Victorian death certificates, unfortunately, still unable to find the right death for William Browne in Victoria. Again, I wonder if such was due to their being out of the State at the time. Have looked under both spelling of the surname, as both have been used at different times. Any help at all would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.
