    3. Hi List for those people talking about Deed poll, I changed my surname when I was 22 [1972] from the name of my first marriage to the name I was going to marry before my devoice went to court. My birth certificate stayed the same, when I married it has Lynette Prislan is marrying Gunther Prislan it looks so funny. So when I went to get a passport I have to take my birth, 1st marriage, Deed Poll, Divorce and 2nd marriage as proof that it is me. regards Lynette ===== http://www.genealogy.com/users/l/i/n/Lynette-prislannee-Linton/?Welcome=994149568 http://www.geocities.com/gprislan/index.html Victoria family research names Linton,O'Farrell,Mulcahey/Mulcahy, Grannell,Morris,Riley, Wright Mary Ann O'Farrell [m] Illewellyn White, Thomas William O'Farrell [m] Margaret Lillian Mulcahey, Victoria May O'Farrell [m] George Morris, William Thomas O'Farrell [m] Mary Veronica Grannell Beatrice Ellen Mary O'Farrell [m] David Henry Riley Thomas Leo O'Farrell [m] Isabelle Wright __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 1. [A.G.R. ] Mrs. SCULLY's house
    2. G & J Cunningham
    3. Hello again to All. I hope I'm not annoying too many, this is another funny report from the Argus of 19 Feb. 1879. But shows just what life was like for some. This has lots of names. Cheers Jacqui Cunningham Central Victoria http://www.oldnewscopy.com "It's Old News!" "An extraordinarily corpulent woman named Mary SCULLY was brought up on a charge of being the keeper of a house frequented by idle and disorderly persons. At the same time other eight degraded looking women, named Ann AHEARN, Alice MANKIWITZ, Maria McREA, Johanna BOOTH, Mabel TAYLOR, Elizabeth COLE, Elizabeth GLEN and Mary JUNO, and two old men named John BOURKE and Patrick SCULLY, were charged with being vagrants. Evidence was given by Constable GRIFFIN and other policemen that Mrs. SCULLY's house, which was in Romeo-lane off Bourke-street east, was one of a very low character, and that it was the abode or rendezvous of the other prisoners, who were all persons without visible lawful means of support. Inspector MONTFORD explained that on Monday a woman named Caroline CLARKE, and a girl named Margaret ATKINSON, 17 years of age, were brought before the court on a charge of vagrancy, that they were found in SCULLY's house, that the girl was said to have been decoyed there by CLARKE for immoral purposes, and that whilst the woman was sent to goal for three months the girl was handed over to the care of Dr. SINGLETON. It was in consequence of the girl having been decoyed to the house and harboured there that the police had made a raid on the establishment. Mrs. SCULLY was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, with hard labour; the two old men and the two last mentioned women were, on account of their age, discharged; and the remainder were sent to goal for one month."

My grandfather came from Melbourne , but I don't know if he was actually born in Australia ,although Ihaven't been able to find an entry for a birth in the U.K. My grandfather joined the British Army in 1914 and was discharged early in 1917. He married my grandmother in 1918 and never went back to Australia .He died in the 1930's from heart trouble. My great grandfather also called Samuel was supposed to have worked for the Post Office as a Postmaster . He was listed as retired, when my grandfather married. My grandfather would have been born somewhere about 1894-1896.There is some discrepancy about his age ,since his age on marriage and death vary by about 3 years. He may have lied about his age to enlist. My only other information is that my grandfather had a brother called Victor ,who also came to the U.K. but was killed by a train, also a sister who was a mannequin( model?).Sh! e ! may have been married also. There is an entry for a Mrs E.Green in his bible. My grandfather was also involved with The International Bible Students Association or Russellites ( now known as Jehovah's Witness) I assume this must have been after his army service. 3. On the hunt for info again please.............. Family has given me the below possible connection, but I would like to fill in the blanks to see how legit it is. However....the earliest members I have on file are........ Thomas WARD M: Ann (at Holy Trinity, Coventry) 1. Richard WARD (born: c18/02/1794) M: Sarah HAMMERSLEY (m: 2/06/1830 , Bedworth, England) i. He was appointed Chief Warder at Rottnest ---- I have some stats on his time as Chief Warder on Rottnest if anyone is interested ---- I only have details on him until 1893 on Rottnest, then I have hit a blank, only knowing he later moved to Geraldton, WA, where his sons had a blacksmith & wheelright business, the land was eventually sold to the Catholic Bishop) Has anyone got any further info on the above? Can you provide the linkage between Thomas WARD & Nathaniel WARDE? I have names of most of the descendents of this family....though I am missing BD&M dates for some of them. 2. G & J Cunningham
    3. Hi All, This paragraph from the Argus, which I should have the index on-line by tomorrow (three pages are on-line) it gives a heap of information if someone lost an OSBORNE. It is quite long but the end is very informative!! Cheers Jacqui Cunningham Central Victoria http://www.oldnewscopy.com "It's Old News!" >From Argus, February 19, 1879. "In the case of BLAIR v OSBORNE, heard by his Honour Judge Cope at the County Court yesterday, the plaintiff, Maria BLAIR, of Moray-place, Emerald-hill, laundress, sued Joseph Rowe OSBORNE, of Highett-street, Richmond, for £29. 5s., as money due by him for board and lodging, washing, attendance, and other necessaries found and provided by the plaintiff for Letitia OSBORNE, the defendant's wife, at his request. Dr. MADDEN appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. F.L. SMYTH for defendant. The defendant is the plaintiff in the divorce case of OSBORNE v OSBORNE, which is still pending. It was proved that the full amount claimed had been incurred by Mrs OSBORNE when staying with Mrs BLAIR. The defence was that the defendant's wife had committed adultery with a man named SMITH, the co-respondent in the divorce suit, and was therefore not entitled to any maintenance from her husband; that her husband was living in Adelaide when the debt was incurred, and was earning a salary of only £75 a year, and that he had remitted £15 for her when there, which was all he could spare. Mrs. OSBORNE, on being examined, swore that although she went to New Zealand with SMITH, and occupied the same cabin in the vessel, and although lived with him in New Zealand, improper intimacy never took place between them. His Honour gave a verdict for the amount claimed, less the £15 remitted from Adelaide."

    3. I have a photo taken in Massachusetts without photographers name. I am assuming this was taken by a camera privately owned. I have an album from the 1800's and in this album are several photos taken in Australia, again apparently privately taken. My question is, when did cameras become available to public. I have heard that in Australia it wasn't until late in the 1800's but am wondering if they were available earlier than this in the States. My g'g travelled back and forth on a regular basis to theStates from the 1860's thru to early 1900's, so if cameras were available in the States earlier than here then it is highly possible he would have bought one there. He had a passion for anything mechanical and was always importing things from the States for the hell of it! This would help me get an approximate date on this photos.
