    1. [A.G.R. ] Powell Family
    2. T & H Best
    3. Hello listers, I am trying to locate any person who may be researching or related to William Powell and Sophia Soar. They married at St Johns in Adelaide, 23 December in 1852 and had a very large family (9 children). They both died in Murray Bridge area and are buried there. 3. Hello, I found the below report and thought it amusing in how they describe the felon. I'm glad I don't "want a left hand"!! Cheers Jacqui www.oldnewscopy.com.au "It's Old News!" Victoria Police Gazette, May 8, 1856, page 167. Extracts from N.S.W. Crime reports. "The name of Mr. W. GLASSON was forged to a cheque for £37 on the Union Bank of Australia, Bathurst, by D.H. DAVIDSON, on or before the 14th day of February last, at King's Plains, near Carcoar. DAVIDSON is about 5 feet 9 inches high, grey hair, walks erect, wants the left hand, and represents himself as a pensioner, and that he belonged to either the 60th or 95th Rifles, and was present at the battle of Waterloo, and wears a medal, is a great snuff taker, and generally follows the occupation of schoolmaster or clerk, is a Scotchman, and is now about 56 or 60 years of age. A warrant has been issued by the Carcoar Bench for his apprehension, and is now in the hands of the Chief Constable. Frederick Alman DINGER of North Logan, offer a reward of £2 for the apprehension of the above-described D.H. DAVIDSON."

    1. [A.G.R. ] Hugh & Mary Beattie (Grandparents of Dame Mary Gilmore)
    2. Penny Family History
    3. Hi all, I am posting this message for a friend. Hugh & Mary Beattie came from Ireland to Australia in the 1840's. They first settled in the Windsor area, moving from there to Bathurst, Penrith, Hartley, Carcoar and Goulburn. Their children were: Sarah b. 1845 Windsor Mary b 1846 Windsor Jane b 1847 Bathurst James b 1849 Bathurst Martha b 1850 Bathurst William b 1852 Bathurst Thomas b 1855 Windsor John b 1857 Penrith Isabella b 1858 Penrith Alfred b 1860 Hartley Unnamed male b 1863 Carcoar My friend is descended through Alfred, who married Sarah about 1885. Mary Ann Beattie married Donald Cameron in Goulburn in 1864, they were the parents of Dame Mary Gilmore, who was born at "Merry Vale" (near Goulburn) which was owned by her Beattie grandparents in 1865. Much has been written about Dame Mary's family, but my friend is interested in the descendants of the other Beattie children. If anyone has any information that they would like to share, I will pass it on. Thanks in advance, Penny Canberra ACT

    2. The Walkers
    3. Hi Brenda, I don't think that the RUSHERS were USHER, although I have wondered this. They were definitely RUSHER in England and everything here has been RUSHER, including a few Eastern state distant cousins. Someone could have dropped the 'R' somewhere along the line. It is certainly something I have in the back of my mind when looking for RUSHERs, as it isn't a very common name. Thanks for the question.
