    3. Hi I hope you maybe able to help me please, I'm trying to help someone in the UK locate family members who immigrated to Western Australia in the early to mid 1970's. I have their names and the childrens birth dates, and only a Post office box number from back then. What is the usual procedure with these matters for trying to locate the family. Can shipping/migrant records be accessed or is it possible to check on Electoral rolls or BDM'S. The childrens father may have remarried but the children were born in 1971 and 1973 in England. Any help or advice is very much appreciated. Kind regards Dianna in Sydney

    1. [AUS-WA-PASSENGERLISTS] Clarification on Immigration Records - PROV
    2. Nereda Pinker
    3. Hi, Just wondering how "correct" the ages on the Immigration Records were (looking at the PROV ones that Yvonne mentioned). It's just that we have a William Gilchrist in 1896 so it is in the time frame we were looking at, but it mentions his age as being 34. Our William would have been 73, so it's hard to imagine that someone would have mistaken a 73 year old for a 34 year old, or been able to even bluff their way. Also in what circumstances was "A" used? You'd think if they were referring to adults then that would have mean't anybody over a certain age (would it have been 21??), but you have other ages higher than 21 listed. So would "A" have been used for an older person?? Also another one is why on some records did they just put Mr Gilchrist? I have a record for a Mr Gilchrist on the Kalgoorlie III in 1899, it would be about the right age for our James Gilchrist, but there wouldn't seem to be anyway of knowing if this is our James or not? Thanks for any help. Nereda

    3. Nerida, You are almost certainly right about the horse and cart but there is just a very faint chance that it is true. A number of prospectors did the trip but not many. Albany would be your best bet and there just may be a record of the issue of a "Miners Right" if he was involved with prospecting. You appear to have the records of Births, deaths and marriages so you have covered those events. Good luck Brian > From: kimnned@westnet.com.au > To: AUS-WA-PASSENGERLISTS@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 19 Feb 2011 13:04:53 +0800 > Subject: [AUS-WA-PASSENGERLISTS] Immigration Records > > Hi, > > I was wondering if anybody could please advise where the best place to > look for Immigration Arrivals for about 1893 in relation to people > coming from Victoria. > > I have a William Gilchrist (g'g'grandfather) who came over we believe > around 1893 (going from 10 years in WA on death cert). 3. Hi, I was wondering if anybody could please advise where the best place to look for Immigration Arrivals for about 1893 in relation to people coming from Victoria. I have a William Gilchrist (g'g'grandfather) who came over we believe around 1893 (going from 10 years in WA on death cert). But, there are too many years in Australia, so we don't know where the error is. We also have a Frances William and James Gilchrist. James (g'grandfather) married in 1903 in Katanning. We have Frances came over with his wife & 2 children, and then the third child is born in Kalgoorlie in 1900. A "story" I believe is that they came over by horse & cart, but that seems like a huge journey. So just wondering if there was a particular port that people emmigrating from Victoria came to ie: Albany rather than Fremantle. Thanks so much for any help, I always seem to get stuck on WA immigration research. Regards Nereda
