Three of their children moved to WA about 1900: George THOMAS married Mary OLIVER and died in Subiaco in 1936; Sarah married Albert GIBBONS and died in Subiaco in 1943 and John Joseph married Louisa TESTER and died in Subiaco in 1953. CHANGI QUILT : Women internees at Changi Prison in Singapore during World War II made a patchwork quilt. The quilt bore their signatures and it is hoped to hear from anybody who signed it or anyone with information about the quilt. The inquiry is made on behalf of Mary LIM in Singapore, who was in Changi as a child and remembers her teacher was one of the women involved. DAWSON : A family reunion is planned for March 27-28, 2004 to celebrate the wedding anniversary of Mary DOOLEY, who arrived in WA on the Palestine on April 28, 1853, and John DAWSON, who arrived on the Egyptian on February 13, 1830. He came to Perth via New Zealand and lived in the Goldfields before 1943. He travelled for a Perth tailor fitting up Goldfields men for their suits, then took the finished garments to Kalgoorlie. His last job was driving a taxi in Perth. The information is sought by the writer's daughter, who was five months old when he died. They arrived from the UK in 1913 with some of their 12 children and settled in Gnowangerup for a time as part of a settlement scheme. He was born in Geraldton and in early life is believed to have been a carting contractor (teamster), possibly with his brothers Joseph (the writer's grandfather) and Aubrey, before settling in Mullewa in 1876 and becoming a businessman in the town. He was the foundation chairman of the Mullewa Road Board in 1911, serving on the shire until 1942, and was the second JP appointed in the Mullewa district. The following year their widowed mother Annie married William's brother, John WHITE. A third brother, James, married Violet.
