There is no recorded death of James in WA and it is thought he could possibly be one and the same as the writer's grandfather, James Richard DAY, who arrived in NSW in 1876 recorded as spending the first 20 years in WA. James R. DAY established himself in Tenterfield, NSW, where he became a successful carpenter, builder, and funeral director. He is also believed to have been involved with professional boxing and associated with world champion boxer Jem Mace. James died in Tenterfield on June 23, 1922. FRASER : Information is sought for family history about John FRASER, born in South Australia about 1886-87 to George and Elizabeth FRASER. He worked in WA as a brewer's assistant in Kalgoorlie and Ora Banda before joining the army in Kalgoorlie on April 27, 1916. He served in the 51st Battalion but was killed in action in France on April 25, 1918. John had a brother, Alexander, whose address was Meekatharra and Rottnest Island, and two half-sisters, Annie MUMME and Agnus ELLIOT, who were born in Scotland to George and Agnes FRASER. Contact: L. Past owners and managers of the mill included William WANLISS, HETHERINGTON, DOCHENDORF, STEEDMAN, William ATKINS and Arthur E. RITCHIE. Subsequent managers who occupied the residence included Alexander C. MUNRO and Michael KERR and after the company town was taken over by Millars - F. L. JOHNS sailed to Fremantle from London on October 21, 1924 on the Jervis Bay, aged 24. English family and outback Australian photos show a diverse lifestyle. LAUNDER : In 1846, a Dr LAUNDER entered Nornalup Inlet, boated up the lower reaches of Deep River and built a hut. He had the intention of breeding horses for the Indian army. He had the misfortune to fatally wound an Aboriginal who was caught pilfering stores from his hut and the police advised him to leave the area in case of retribution. McGILLIVRAY : Information is sought about the life of Dr William Sim McGILLIVRAY. Very little is known about him yet he was able to make a bequest to the University of WA of a large sum of money that was used to buy artwork plus the magnificent organ in Winthrop House. Ken May will talk about the grand days of the South Perth Horticultural Society 1935-2003. For 68 years the society disseminated tips on gardening, developed new blooms, conducted flower shows and generally was the trusted voice of gardening in South Perth. WOOD : Descendants of Frederick Ashley WOOD and Ann ATKINSON are sought for the family tree. They were married in Adelaide in 1876. Frederick died in WA in 1943.
