Jane, it is helpful to mention the names you are after just in case some one has a connection or knows some thing about the ones you are looking for . Both my gfathers died in WA at about that time ..one lot (ures) lived in Claremont and the others in South Perth (Elfgrens) after having lived in Bayswater. It was a very 'small' place in those days. all the best, Linda Ure (Sargent) also searching for Barber, Ladd -----Original Message----- From: Roger Kelly <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:11 Subject: Re: [AUS-WA] BMD certificates >Thanks Linda, >I have had a look on the site and found it very helpful. Dear Linda, Thanks for the suggestion. I suppose I should have given their names: John YOUNG 1849 - 1938 and his wife Mary (KEAN) 1857 - 1953 arrived on separate ships, each with some of their family: Roon (vessel name), Antwerp to Fremantle, 19 June 1911: Mr William Young (coachman) Mrs Mary Young Miss Burnett Young (domestic) Miss Edith Young (domestic) Master James Young (under 18) Miss Kate Young (under 18) (all noted as Scottish, all 3rd-class passengers) Cassel (vessel name), Antwerp to Fremantle, 21 November 1911: Mr John Young (62 yrs, merchant) Miss Jessie Young (20 yrs) Miss Gertrude Young (17 yrs) (all noted as Scottish, all 3rd-class passengers) Their eldest daughter, Christina Clapperton YOUNG was already married in Scotland to Thomas BURT.(1910) They also lived out their lives in Perth WA but we can't find their arrival. We are interested to know what they did when they arrived, where they settled etc. John YOUNG had owned a fruit shop in Edinburgh before he left, but before that he was an oil works manager and had lived in France where Christina was born in about 1881. Most are buried in Karrakatta cemetery. They were generally very longlived so we know they found Australia congenial. A kind lister has sent us a photo of John and Mary's last house in Caledonian Avenue. Is that Maylands? and she also sent us the passenger lists. We even know who some of the children married. We don't know whether Tom and Christina BURTs children were born in Scotland or Australia. Christina died in 1927 so they must have arrived before then. Also why would they have gone from Antwerp? Was that typical? We are now in contact with descendants thanks to this list.
