The Cunderdin Airshow will be held over the Easter weekend and a memorial plaque to those who died will be dedicated on Sunday, April 20 at 10.30am. Those killed were: F/Sgt. R.J. JOHNSON, F/Sgt. He was born in 1891, place unknown, and apparently worked his way across Australia before he left to work the gold mines of Africa. He signed up for the Australian Army and served in World War I, surviving Gallipoli. Michael ("Snowy") died in 1941. He had at least one brother, who was a minister of the church. His wife, Elsie was living at 75 Sampson Street, Beaconsfield at the time of his death. His brother Francis John of the 16th Battalion AIF was also killed in action in France - on August 6, 1917 aged 41. The brothers came originally from Clunes in Victoria and had been living on the Kalgoorlie Goldfields from the late 1890s. Information is sought about descendants for a family tree being compiled. Each year since 1982 an engineer dawn service has been held at Karrakatta to remember the many sappers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
