Hi, I have just joined this List. The names I am researching are John "Jack" Francis WHEELER, who married Elsie Lillian SOUTHAM sometime in the early 1900's. Jack worked for the Railways, he was a splitter, and supplied timber for the sleepers. Sorry, I know that is awfully vague, I have just 10 days ago found out that "Jack" WHEELER, whom I had been told (by my Mother) had married Elsie Lillian SOUTHAM in England. Had in actual fact (another 'family' tale) married Elsie in West Australia, maybe Perth, and that their first child was Phyllis Anne born about 1912. Phyllis Anne married James Henry BAKER, 1933, I have had contact with 2 of their children. I might add, it is only since February 2003, yes, just 4 months ago, that I made the discovery of the parents of Phyllis Anne, I had known her and her husband and 2 of their 6 children about 1943, but had not known that my Mother's relative an older lady who visited us and I knew during my young years, was actually Phyllis' Mother. Elsie Lillian SOUTHAM was born in Rushworth, Victoria in 1892, the last child of her parents, her Father had been killed in a mining accident just a few months before she was born, there were some 6 or 7 other children, of which my Maternal Grand-mother was the third eldest. So, if anyone knows anything about WHEELER and/or SOUTHAM, I'd love to hear from you. And, if there is anything recorded anywhere regarding Railways and Railway workers I'd very much like to know about it.
