The house is on the waterfront next to the Residency museum. Early owners were Solomon ASPINALL and John THOMAS, each involved in early whaling at Albany and associated with the lugger MaryAnn. The cottage was owned and/or occupied by William SIMMONS (water policeman), George Herbert BAILEY (bank manager), Jean GALLE (watchmaker and jeweller) and his wife Marguerite; and a Mrs NOLAN. BURGESS who were made life members of the Leederville Tennis Club in 1924 and 1946 are sought. James was a Perth City councillor from 1921 to 1930 and they lived in Loftus Street, Leederville. James died at his desk on December 3, 1945. HIS MAJESTY'S : In March 1906 contractor Gus LIEBE and theatre owner Tom MOLLOY appeared in the Supreme Court over expensive variations to the contract to built the theatre. Two arbitrators and an umpire had tried to resolve the dispute. Architects Michael CAVANAGH and J. Talbot HOBBS were umpire and an arbitrator. The other arbitrator was E.N. THOMAS of Porter & Thomas. Although small, it had 30 or more officers, sailors, and civilians. A list was started from the 1992 reunion but names are missing and addresses need updating. Isobel married John NORWOOD on January 19, 1898, and had four children but she died when they were young. Isobel was the daughter of Robert THOMPSON who married Margaret MURPHY in New Norcia on November 18, 1855. Also hoping to hear from descendants and relatives of the MURPHY family. POLICE OFFICERS : Living descendants or relatives of these police officers who served in the 19th century are asked to respond: James McCAUL (died 1943), Neil McKAY (d. 1906), David McVEA (d. 1952), Michael Joseph O'FLAHRETY (d. 1915), Louis Vincent SIMPSON (d. 1941), and Edward James SPRY (d. 1944). The book traces the family history in France from 1583 to emigration in the mid-1800s to Australia, Guernsey and Canada. The Fremantle author also provides an in-depth insight into the French family of great-grandfather Aimable Ciril DUPEROUZEL, who was one of only seven convicts of French origin transported to WA. STEELE / JONES : Information is sought about William Rolfe STEELE and wife Mary Ann PAVE who arrived at Fremantle on the Lotus on October 6, 1829. William was a publican at hotels in Fremantle and Guildford. Their children were Mary Anne, William, Sidney, Amelia, Alfred, Emma, and Cora. Mary Anne was born in Fremantle on May 13, 1830, and married David JONES in Guildford on July 7, 1849. Hoping to hear from all descendants. "Change ringing" is an English tradition dating back hundreds of years with the bells sounded by turning them full circle by rope and wheel. Change ringing does not require undue physical strength or a knowledge of music but does need co-ordination, rhythm and concentration. An eight-week introductory course starts in July.
