BEACONSFIELD CROSSWALK : Does anyone know the exact date that Beaconsfield Primary School received its first traffic crosswalk? The year is believed to be 1937. A photo of the writer and her brother using the new crosswalk as children was published in a newspaper at the time. She needs the date to find the news article in the Battye Library. Does anyone know when it was first built and by whom? When did it close? Also seeking information about visiting priests. Data is being collected for a book about the churches of the Great Southern. They had two sons, Charles (born 1859) and Herbert (1867) and three daughters, Agnes (1868), Clarica (1870) and Alice Maud (1873). In 1881 the family lived in Angel Cottage, Westham, Essex, England where Charles was district superintendent for the Great Eastern Railway. In 1904, son Herbert migrated to WA with two children. A base was established on the UWA campus while maintenance facilities were established and a big concrete slipway installed where, today the Royal Perth Yacht Club operates. The writer is appealing for photographs (to be copied and returned) to establish a data base depicting the US Catalinas' important Contribution in the defence of WA. They moved to Broome in 1905 where Louis was a solicitor. Children: Muriel Juliet (m. Hymie DAVIS) and Cyril Marcus (m. Brenda Freda LEVI). Cyril and Brenda's children: Marcus and Rodney. COOMBE : John Henry COOMBE, second child of Mary and John COOMBE, was born at Kapunda in South Australia on December 15,1866. He married Mary Ann DOIDGE (1867-1921) at Clunes Methodist Church in Victoria in 1889. They later moved to WA, arriving on the India on February 1,1904. John owned a grocery store in Bulwer Street, Perth. Hoping to hear from descendants and relatives. The 306 pages trace East Perth's origins back to 1902 when the local Union soap factory got together with the boys from the Excelsior lolly factory and formed the Union Football Club which in 1906 became the East Perth Football Club. The book includes many photos of successful teams, players and administrators. Every league player and the results of every league game from 1906 to 2005 are also listed. ST GEORGE'S COLLEGE : World War II servicemen. Information is sought about members of UWA's St George's College who lost their lives in World War II. Four names were published last week. The remaining five are: Robert William Cuthbertson, James Henry Simpson, Ian Kimber Anderson, Leonard Courtney Laver and David Julius McLeod. GOLDFIELDS PIPELINE : People who lived or worked at one of the pumping stations on the Goldfields water supply pipeline are asked to respond regarding a get-together to be held at Mundaring Weir on Sunday, July 30. The Trust is collecting personal stories about life on the pipeline from 1898 to the present day and would also like to hear from people who can't attend but have a story to tell. Information is sought about descendants of brothers John, William and Robert HULL, sons of John and Margaret HULL (nee QUIGLEY). John (junior) married Mary Alice BUTLER and remained in Victoria where he died in 1919. Seven of their 13 children married and family names include: DRALLE, HIGHFIELD, COLLINS, JOYCE, TUCKER, CARR and STOREY. Two other sons of John and Margaret are said to have gone West. Contact: Brian Powell, 0429 932 466. mailto:bplives@hotmail.com PARKER : Seeking information about what happened to William Howdle PARKER who arrived from Yorkshire to join his family in the Perth area after serving as a soldier with the Scots Guards from 1911 to 1918. But he disappeared before 1922 and nothing more was heard of him again. Cousins are believed to be living in Australia descendants of his siblings Florence May and James Herbert who died in Perth in 1960 and 1949 respectively and Ada Louise. Their parents were Frank Fox PARKER and Margaret Ellen and the family's first address was in Duke Street, West Perth. He migrated to WA about 1913 and hopefully there are some relatives still living here. Ernest served with the Australian army in World War I and II. He died in Swanbourne in 1967 and his wife Daisy May died in Manning in 1984. The booklet contains a brief history of this line and the passenger trains. There is also a section on "Katie", the locomotive brought for the opening of the line and now preserved at Bassendean.
