The next Back to the Barracks will be held upstairs in the Artillery Barracks, Burt Street, Fremantle on Wednesday, June 28 at 7pm. The topic the Battle of Long Khanh will be presented by Lt-Col John Tick RAE (Rtd), who took part in the action as a lieutenant in June 1971. It represents one of the bigger but still typical operations of the Australians in Vietnam. A light supper will follow. Cost: $15 a person (seating limited). They were married in Brisbane but later moved to WA. The family lived in Fremantle for some time until the deaths of James and Fanny in 1947. There were three sons James, Robert and Horace BYRNE. HAMERSLEY IRON : Rio Tinto and Hamersley Iron are celebrating 40 years of operations in the Pilbara this year. Organisers are searching for past employees who worked with Hamersley Iron from 1965 to 1970 and would like to share their memories and recall the early days of Hamersley Iron. He was a legend in his time and was extremely popular with the teenagers of that era. He also had a cart with bicycle wheels which he used to lend to anyone and everyone to transport their heavy luggage to and from the ferry. Seeking information and anecdotes from those who remember him on Rottnest Island. There must be hundreds of families and "schoolies" with stories to tell. An internet search has revealed a soldier by that name who enlisted in WA and was killed at the Dardanelles on April 25,1915. His mother was listed as living In England. McKAY purchased about 21,000 acres of land between Chinkymia and Kulja to test its Sun General Plough. The farm was named Mervano and had a fully equipped workshop. The writer's family originally had a photo of this workshop, however it's now missing.
