It was built in one day in 1916. The award-winning and heritage-listed cottage will be open to the public on Sunday, April 9 from 12.30pm to 2pm. Admission is free but there is a donation box. Hoping to hear again from his relative who wished to place a plaque on a wall dedicated to railway men who worked in the Merredin area. BUNBURY RESIDENCE : Seeking details of the first owners of the house at 78 Stirling Street, Bunbury — and the year it was built. Guest speaker Geraldine LANE will be accompanied by her dog Topaz and will speak about the history and work of the Guide Dog Association in WA. Organised by the Women's Auxiliary of the Royal WA Historical Society, these meetings are held in the Cityplace Conference room, Perth Railway Station concourse, and are open to everyone. Cost: $5 (includes an excellent afternoon tea). Contact: 9386 3841. KERSHAW : The writer found a photograph of Private Harold Herbert KERSHAW among her late father-in-law's World War I mementoes. She would be happy to pass the photo back to the soldier's family. Harold was married and living in Geraldton when he enlisted in 1915. He served with the 11th Battalion and returned to Australia in 1919. Contact: Audrey Kershaw, 93614721. KINGS PARK KOKODA SERVICE : The 2/16th Battalion Association will hold its Kokoda Trail memorial day in Kings Park on Sunday, April 9. The service will begin at 11am at the 2/16th memorial about 300m north of the main memorial. All welcome. Veterans will be present to tell of their experiences on the trail and answer questions. The park track, about 300m south of the main war memorial leading down to Mounts Bay Road — with plaques affixed depicting battle sites — will be open for walking. An associate members' picnic will be held in the park on the same day. McAULIFFE : Patrick John McAULIFFE was born in Newport on the Isle of Wight and came to Australia as a baby with his family about 1864-66. Patrick married Ellen COLLINS in 1887 and died in Norseman in 1902. Patrick and Ellen had six children — Mary, Herbert, Hannah, Eugene, Myrtle and Joy. Does anyone remember the clock and know what became of it? Contact: Rod Gaynor, 9409 3879. ROBINSON : John David Ranelagh ROBINSON lived in Ingle-wood in 1938. He was a newspaper representative. By 1942 he had married Shirley Ross ANDERSON and moved to "Minelup", Pingrup. They had no children. John moved to "Windsor Farm", Pinjarra, and died in 1967. Shirley died in Bayswater in 1998. This indicates Martha arrived in Australia about 1841. Any extra information on her roots would be greatly appreciated. The CD includes a brief biographical description of persons arriving into or born in the Swan River Colony up to December 31, 1838 (including all of WA) with births, deaths, marriages and ship arrivals (if known). WILLIAMS History Prize 2006 is being offered by the Royal WA Historical Society to promote interest in the history of WA. Entry to the competition is open to secondary school students from Years 10,11 and 12, and their equivalent level. A prize of $400 will be presented to the author of the winning essay.
