Hello, Hope someone can help me with a dead end. I'm researching my maternal mother's line and trying to find what happened to my great uncle JAPHET MASON. I believe he may have followed my great grandfather ENOCH MASON out to WA. Here's what I have found out through research: ENOCH MASON abandoned family in Newcastle Under Lyme, England and went to NSW sometime in early 1880s. He then married a Margaret Powell in 1887 (even though his first wife Annie was still alive)! Enoch's oldest son, NOAH, followed him out in 1891 and subsequently died in NSW in 1911. A second son JAPHET also went out in 1892. This is where I reach a dead end. Enoch appears from 1904 through 1934 in WA directories. First as a farmer from 1904 in area called Serpentine, then as a farmer from 1925 in Jarrahdale. He died in 1934 and is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery. I cannot find a record of JAPHET in NSW and suspect he went out to WA because my uncle JONAS went out to WA in late 1940s to stay with an uncle, who I believe was JAPHET, but the uncle either died shortly before or after Jonas arrived. Jonas, by the way, then proceeded to go "walk about" and disappeared from all trace until rediscovered in the early 1990s living in a cave near Fremantle! He died in 2001 thus starting the search for my mother's family. Does anyone have any ideas of I can find out what happened to JAPHET? Name could have been spelled as JAPHETH, JAPET, JAKE, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried WA directories and reverse marriage look-up for WA but no luck. Eve
