Hello Listers We are newcomers to the list and hope that someone may be able to advise on researching in Australia. We are trying to find JOHN CASH. He was probably born in Cheshire, England around 1800- 1810. He married MARTHA HAYES in Cheshire in 1830. The family story goes that he left Martha to go to Australia where he is said to have prospered. The date ranges are between 1830 - 1845. He was never heard of for many years but later returned to visit Martha who promptly showed him the door. Martha had remarried in 1845 assuming John had died. When John died he is said to have left Martha his estate which Martha refused to accept because he had remarried (we assume) saying that his property should be left to John's wife and children in Australia. Another family story says that Martha did look into receiving the estate. We did receive some information that there was a John Cash born in Stafford who was transported to Tasmania on the Lord Goderich. He later married an ELIZABETH DUNKS. He died a pauper in 1876 and buried in Tasmania. Whilst the dates tie in, the area of birth is in question. We don't know of any connection between the CASH family and the Stafford area, but having said that we know nothing of his origins. We think that a Will may hold a key if it mentions MARTHA CASH and children ANN and PETER CASH as we don't know any other way to identify our John Cash. Has anyone any suggestions as to how we may proceed to locate Wills (with us living in the UK) and access census's on line? As we don't know which state John went to we apologise for any duplication of this request that you may see on other lists. We would really appreciate any help or advice. Kindest regards Marilyn and Dave
