It will also give his age, which will give you a better idea of what year he was born. I also notice on the marriage registration Joseph has a 2nd initial of H, do you know what his 2nd name was? I have found the marriage of Sidney William THOMPSON and Isabella REES - June Qtr 1871 - Strand - 1b - 802. The district *Strand* spans the boundaries of the counties of *London* and *Middlesex. *I can't seem to find them on the 1881 Census, which MAY mean they immigrated before then.
