Annie left London to deal with her inheritance in WA and arrived in Albany some time in July 1923. John already had eight children to his first wife who died in 1886 when he married Phoebe in Mandurah in 1887. John and Phoebe's children were: William, Winifred, Dora, Vernon (died of wounds in France in 1917), Sidney, Essie, Donald, Minna, Eunice, Ena, Verna and adopted daughter, Joyce. John joined the police force in 1884 and was the first policeman at Rockingham and then moved to Pinjarra in 1886 where the family lived.
