The book records the memories of the children of Arcadia — a South African Jewish orphanage — and its history 1906-2006. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go back to the orphanage in South Africa. Afternoon tea served. Please RSVP. James lived in Collie and died on March 28,1933. He had six children: Emily, Herbert, Florence, Hilda, Pearl and Myrtle. He is believed to be the brother of Vincent (SA), John Henry (NSW) and Priscilla (Vic) — the writer's grandmother — and Philip Mark (SA). Their parents were John and Eliza GLIDDON (nee RULE) who came to South Australia from Devon, England, on the Lady Jocelyn in 1875. Margaret came to WA from Ireland about 1922 and took over the Perth School of Art in Hay Street when founder Henry van Raalte left. From the mid-1920s to about the mid-1940s she also taught at a number of private schools — St Mary's CEGS, Presbyterian Ladies College, Guildford Grammar School and Perth College as well as Perth Technical School. Anyone who remembers being taught by Margaret is sought. Some of her work is held in public collections but anyone who has any of her artwork in a private collection — including the unknown buyer of a watercolour of the Peter Pan statue in Queens Gardens with a group of children playing — is also asked to respond. The WA Medical Museum needs volunteers to help out between 2pm and 4pm once a month. Also, volunteers to join their Wednesday team would be most welcome. It was presented to her husband when he left Guinea Airways in South Australia in the 1940s and was much prized by the family. It was chromed, about 45cm long and 45cm wide and represented a Super Fortress bomber with four engines and a tail wheel. It was last seen in the late 1970s when the mother moved into a retirement home. Hoping to show it to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The hotel was built in 1897 and the new owners are in the process of refurbishing it to its former glory. Looking for old photos of the hotel or historic pieces to be framed for display in the soon to be renovated restaurant and lounge bar. George William died in 1926 and Priscilla died in 1945. Also seeking family of his brother Henry Stephen NICHOLLS and wife Aurora Lavina. They had seven children: Florrie, Oscar, Fred, Stanley, Kevin, Malcolm and Edward. Trying to complete the family history of Caroline Louisa NICHOLLS, sister of George William and Henry Stephen. Tel: (03) 5382 6345. mailto:wylieb@iinet.net.au PERTH MALE CHOIR : The Perth Male Voice Choir will celebrate its 80th Anniversary in Concert on Saturday, August 26 at Fremantle Town Hall where in August 1926 the Commercial Travellers Concert Party — as the choir was then called — performed its first public concert. Part-proceeds will, as then, be donated to Fremantle Hospital. In addition to the concert all former members, partners, relatives and friends are invited to a celebratory dinner in September. Photographs, memorabilia and written or oral history about the choir is sought for a display. Any tenor or bass voices wishing to help celebrate by joining the choir would be most welcome. POWELL : Information is sought about descendants of William Henry POWELL and Johanna ASHWORTH. William Henry died in Perth in 1942 and Johanna died in 1911. Their children were Eric, Eileen and Daphne. A family tree is being compiled for William's parents, William and Maryann Thomas and this line is incomplete. Tel: 9282 9948. mailto:tmitchell@scrosswa.org.au TOWN OF VINCENT : The Town of Vincent is calling for personal memoirs, written research and photographs over 70 years old for its local history awards competition to preserve the history of the area, which includes the suburbs of Leederville, North Perth, Mt Hawthorn, Highgate and parts of Perth, West Perth, East Perth and Mt Lawley. There is a special award for information on the EAST PERTH POWER STATION. A research project is being undertaken to compile the history of the power station and the impact of electrification on everyday life, focusing particularly on the residents of these suburbs. Former workers at the power station are particularly encouraged to enter. Entries close on August 30. TOWNSEND : Information is sought for family history about Albert Edward TOWNSEND who was born in Devon, England in 1866 and emigrated to Australia in the 1880s. WALKER : Does anyone know what became of the son or daughter of Frank and Roberta WALKER (nee LONG) of Dalton-in-Furness, England?, Frank Walker was born in Carmel, Lancashire, in 1894. His brother, Harry was born in 1898. There is doubt in the family whether it was Tom, Doris or Vera who moved to WA.
